  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 19th July 2023

    Wed 19 Jul 2023

    Dear Parents,
It has been a most eventful time, since I wrote to you last week!

Rehearsals have been continuing for Oak class and I can’t wait to see their performance at the tea party on Friday afternoon.

The children in reception have enjoyed their tea party today with the new reception that are joining in September.  It was a wonderful time for our year 6 to enjoy welcoming the new children and spending some quality time with their buddies before they leave.

We will be having our sports day tomorrow and are keeping our fingers crossed for dry weather.  We will be sending out a message to parents at 11:00 tomorrow letting you know whether we will be able to go ahead outside.

If the weather is as predicted the children will still have a fun afternoon of games and activities but this will need to be limited to a class at a time in the hall.  This will therefore mean we won’t be able to accommodate parents attending.

One other reminder is that from September we will be requesting that the children bring a fruit snack for morning break in our desire to encourage greater healthy eating in school.

I look forward to celebrating with you on Friday when we will  ‘Reach for the Stars’ for the last time this academic year.

    Maple Class:
We are enjoying reflecting on our year in Maple Class and have been writing about our favourite memories and activities through the year. We have been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s in maths. We have also created some beautiful paintings of different flowers in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe.

    Cedar Class
This week we have been focusing on coding in Cedar class. We have been practicing our computational thinking skills like, algorithms, debugging and designing our own drawing game using Scratch. It has been a lovely way to push our learning in the last few weeks of term.

    Damson Class:
Before we begin with this week’s learning, we would like to say well done to all the children in Damson Class that attended the Warwickshire Sings Concert last Wednesday – their behaviour was exemplary!
This week in Maths we are revising equivalent fractions and adding/subtracting mentally. Whilst in Literacy, we are improving our descriptive writing and sentence structure. We are also learning about the emotional changes that can occur during puberty in PSHE.

    Oak Class:
Another busy week in Oak Class with rehearsals, sports day practice and PSHE ready for the move to secondary school.

    Wed 12 Jul 2023

    Dear Parents,
This week we will be once again celebrating the successes of the children within their annual reports and their KS2 SATS results.

I am so proud of what all of the children achieve each and every single day and having an opportunity to read their reports gives me that opportunity to hear about the highlights of their year.

As we approach the end of term it is the perfect time to reflect on things we wish to focus upon next year.  We will be returning to our focus on encouraging healthy eating with a request that the children have a ‘fruit/vegetable’ snack for morning break.  Children are still welcome to bring their treats in for their packed lunch, but we would like them to bring fruit or vegetables for their morning break snack.

Continuing on this healthy eating point, we would also appreciate it if children don’t promote (or bring into school) the ‘Prime’ drinks containers.

Whilst we are aware there are caffeine free versions, we are aware of a primary age child drinking a caffeinated version and then suffering from a cardiac incident.  Whilst we know children in our school have their drinks containers full of water, we would rather ‘Prime’ drinks were not promoted.

I would also like to say a huge well done to the year 6 children as their enterprise project raised an fantastic £118.59.  Amazing work from our budding entrepreneurs.

I look forward to once again ‘Reaching for the Stars’ during our assembly on Friday and seeing you at our Open evening and Sports Day next week!

    Maple Class:
We are learning how to write postcards this week and are writing about lots of adventures! In maths, we are exploring our number bonds and 2-digit numbers. In Science, we are continuing our ‘Treasure Island’ topic and will be making rafts to try to escape the island!

    Cedar Class
This week year 2 and 3 have been recapping
the formal written methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The children have been super sensible and engaging with our RSE learning.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson we have been off our usual timetable and have been making (Ancient Egyptian Dioramas) and baking (Banana Muffins). We have also been covering our RSE topics and are attending our Warwickshire Sings Concert.

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class this week we have been completing our scrap books – of the residential trip, making healthy snacks which were delicious, rehearsing for our end of year show and exploring relationships and the differences between them.

    Dear Parents,
It has been a most eventful time, since I wrote to you last week!

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the summer fayre on Friday evening. The atmosphere was really special, and it was lovely to seeing the ‘Burton Green family’ together.

Our year 6 enterprise initiative was very impressive once again raising much needed funds for the school. Their hard work and determination was once again on full show. I will either see some of them on Dragon’s Den or the Apprentice one day.

It was a huge success overall, not only raising a fantastic £1500 but making our community feel whole again. Well done to our fantastic PTFA for organising such a fabulous event. A lot of work, but definitely worth it.

Things move so quickly and it so exciting as we prepare for our transition afternoon when our new reception pupils will join us again.

As we approach the end of term, I have already seen the stage is set for play rehearsals in year 6, I’m sure it will once again be a fantastic show!
I hope you all have a good rest of the week and a restful weekend when it arrives.

I look forward to celebrating with you on Friday when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars

    Maple Class:
This week we are writing letters for our own class book based on ‘Dear Greenpeace’. In maths we are exploring number bonds and are also subtracting by counting back. We are really looking forward to our ‘move-up’ afternoon too!

    Cedar Class
This week Cedar class have been hard at work coding on scratch. We have been creating our own Maze game using simple algorithms to move characters and designing our backgrounds.

In maths we have all been learning about time. A watch is the best way to encourage your children to tell the time so feel free to wear one to school (preferably analogue).

    Damson Class:
This week in Maths, we have been working on column addition of larger numbers. Whilst in literacy we have been using story maps to help us retell stories. We are also learning more about the timeline of pharaohs and their dynasties in our history work on Ancient Egypt.

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class we have been working to complete our memory books (based on our residential visit), we have also begun to rehearse the end of school show. We completed the enterprise projects on Friday at the summer fair and we have been evaluating these together.
