    Wed 28 Sep 2022

    Dear Parents,
We have once again been busy with our learning across the school.

I got an opportunity this week to see some of the science learning that was taking place in Cedar class.

The children in year 2 were very knowledgeable about germs and they certainly enjoyed demonstrating with some green paint, whilst the children in year 3 were very excited about their explosive volcano work.

Our theme within our assemblies this week is once again wisdom.  This week we were thinking about what wisdom really means and the wisdom that we can gain from our parents.  Hopefully this will result in some great questions at home, probing your own knowledge!

We are once again celebrating on Friday morning at 9:10 when we will ‘Reach for the Stars’ and celebrate your children’s achievements.  If you are available, you are more than welcome to join us.

    Maple Class:
This week we have created our own story inspired by ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. We created a new character and have planned our story for ‘The Leopard Who came to Lunch’. In maths we have been learning to find 1 more than a number and have been revisiting our careful counting skills. We have also been learning about recycling and how we can be eco-friendly to take care of our planet.

    Cedar Class
The class have enjoyed using their knowledge of Queen Elizabeth I in our monarchy topic to make a beautiful collage. In addition, we have been working hard on shape and time in our mathematics.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson Class, we have been looking at 2 place decimals and using times table knowledge in Maths. Whilst in literacy, we have been looking at altering sentence structures, to improve our writing. This is within our focus of Information Text. We have also been learning more about artefacts and sources of evidence for our Stone Age topic.

    Oak Class:
This week Oak Class have completed a baseline assessment of SAT papers. They have concentrated well and maximised their efforts.
In maths they have covered BODMAS and in English they have all written short stories to end our Outsiders unit.

    Dear Parents,
Whilst short, it has been another busy week with the children continuing to enjoy their learning in school.

Within our assemblies we have been focusing on ‘Wisdom’ and thinking about building on firm foundations.

The children have been busy in school creating work for the Eco-churches project that is due to be displayed at the start of October. The children have been thinking about sustainability and how we can save the planet without costing the earth!

This week we will be having our first celebration assembly where parents are invited for a ‘long time’. I hope some of you can join us and see the children receive their certificates and hear about all of the reasons they are ‘Truly Brilliant’.

I hope you have an enjoyable rest of the week and good weekend when it finally arrives.

I look forward to seeing some of you at our celebration assembly on Friday when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class, we are enjoying reading ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ and have been retelling the story. We have also been practising counting accurately in maths and year 1 have been exploring number bonds to 5. We are so impressed with how well the children in Maple are settling into their year group and helping each other!

    Cedar Class
This week in Cedar class we have been busy learning about the role of the monarch. During this time, we have been able to reflect on her Majesty's service and what her role was in our country. Moreover, we have been looking at making links in maths between bonds and also our times tables in year 3.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson Class, we have been using mental strategies to solve addition and subtractions problems in Maths. Whilst in Literacy, we are looking at Information Texts. We are also learning about the importance of water conservation and designing/perfecting posters for the Kenilworth Eco Fayre.

    Oak Class:
A very productive week of work ranging from calculating with decimals in maths, reading a new text – The Island and comprehending the messages behind the story in English to creating Eco posters and understanding which prime ministers led us into World War II. All children in Oak Class have settled into this academic year well.

    Wed 21 Sep 2022

    Dear Parents,
It was so lovely to welcome the children back last week and to see how well they settled into their new routines and in many cases new classrooms.

Seeing our new children join us in Maple class put a huge smile on my face as they came in and made new friends and developed new skills.

I have been impressed with our new year 6 children and the way in which they have already risen to the challenges of being ‘top of the school’.  I’m sure they will continue to impress us all and make Miss V proud.

Next week we look forward to celebrating the achievements of the children with you on Friday morning in the hall at 9:10 for our celebration assembly, which you are all invited to attend. It will be really special to once again ‘Reach for the Stars’ with all of you in person.

I hope you have a peaceful and enjoyable weekend when it finally arrives and make the most of the opportunity to mourn the loss of our Queen with your family on Monday.

Thoughts and prayers with you all.

    Maple Class:
We are so proud of how well the Reception children have started school, and of our Year 1 children who have been superstars at helping them settle into Maple Class. We have been enjoying the story ‘Mog the Forgetful Cat’ and have been sharing our idea for what could happen to her next.

    Cedar Class
Cedar have really surprised me coming back. They have been helpful, supportive of one another and really conscientious in their learning. They have settled with very little problem and are looking forward to furthering our learning about the inspirational people in the world.

    Damson Class:
The children of Damson Class have made a super start to the new academic year. The new Year 4’s settled in without any problems, whilst the Year 5 children seemed to have both grown and matured over summer. It’s been lovely to see, how willing they are to show the younger children the ropes. In Maths, we are looking at place value in relation to 4 & 5 digit numbers and in Literacy, we are looking at ‘Information Text’. We also begun our new topic on ‘The Stone Age and the Iron Age’ and look forward to exploring this further.

    Oak Class:
The children have settled into Oak Class routines already. They have made a good start in their English work – we have already read one text, written letters and completed guided reading activities around our class text which is Boy at the Back of the Class. In maths we have already refreshed our knowledge of place value, rounding numbers to one and two decimal places and converted between decimals and fractions. We are starting our History topic today – World War II. A great start back from all.
