  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 22nd May 2019

    Wed 22 May 2019

Today has been a lovely week with pleasant weather and the children enjoying their learning.  I once again had the pleasure of talking to the children about their learning this week and it was lovely to hear how all of the children value their topic work, the different types of writing (they were proud of their ‘really long’ pieces!) and they explained how they enjoy showing their mathematical learning through their mastery work.  I saw Oak class continue to work hard on their extended writing and their preparation and plans for their tea party at the end of term and enterprise initiative.

I can’t believe that we have almost got to the end of half term!  Enjoy the half term break and remember no school on Friday!

    Class Highlights of the Week:
    Maple Class:

This week in Literacy we have been writing 'Who am I?' books about African animals. We wrote clues on the front and then challenged a friend to read them and guess which animal they thought it was. They then opened the book to see if they were right! We are also really looking forward to being Scientists for the rest of the week and will be completing some interesting experiments!
    Cedar Class:
We enjoyed creating parachutes to test air resistance with Maple Class. It was lovely to see Cedar Class looking so grown up helping our Maple class friends.
    Damson Class:
We have been enjoying Science week by exploring how astronauts go to the loo!  We have designed, conducted and evaluated experiments to measure absorbency, made careful observations of flying poo and measured how far our space buggies could travel.  It's been quite a week!
    Oak Class:
Oak Class impressed Miss V with the way in which they coped with their SAT tests last week, it was made as stress free and relaxing as possible. This week we are busy with creating an end of school show for our parents and we are learning some country dances ready to perform at Kenilworth Castle. A real contrast to SATs but still learning new skills.

    Wed 15 May 2019

This has been a very busy week with our Year 6 class working hard on their SATS and our year 2 children busily continuing work on their SATS.  I am so impressed with the way in which the children take all of these things in their stride and deal with them in such a mature attitude.  This is partially due to their own resilience and attitude and also due to the hard work that our teachers put into supporting these children to achieve their best, without putting untoward pressure.  A huge thank you to Miss V, Mr Nailor, Mrs Beardsmore and Mrs Hind for all the support that they have shown the children in both year 2 and 6.

A special ‘Thank you’ also needs to go to Mrs T who has worked so hard this week to ensure all of the Bacon Butties have been cooked to perfection.  All I can say is that the aroma of the children in Oak class has made me hungry this week!

These are some of the things that make Burton Green so special and a wonderful school to be associated with.

I hope everybody enjoys their weekend and I look forward to seeing some of you at our celebration assembly on Friday.

    Class Highlights of the Week:
    Maple Class:
This week we are really enjoying the book 'African Animal Alphabet' and are finding out lots of interesting facts! In maths we are measuring weight and capacity and we will be planting bean seeds in our Science lesson.
    Cedar Class:
Year 2’s have enjoyed getting their hand (and sometimes clothes) dirty learning about gardening. Whilst the year 3’s have enjoyed investigating the different properties of magnets.
    Damson Class:
We have been learning about the end of Cleopatra's life painting pictures of another rather famous Pharaoh!  We have also been completing some assessments this week.
    Oak Class:
Oak class have been completing their SAT tests this week. They have all worked really hard and showed great maturity in coping well and showing off all the skills and knowledge they have. It’s been a week of Bacon Butties and treats cooked by our own resident Chef – Mrs. T and helpers which everyone deserved.
