Another busy week started with a visit by reception class to All Saints’ Church in Leek Wootton.  It was so lovely to hear about everything they had learnt (and the fun they had) and to hear about the new friends they had made from All Saints’ Academy.  It is so special to hear about the friendships being made across the federation at the start of the children’s schooling.

We were also treated to a health and safety presentation from Cala homes this week.  It was a good opportunity for the children to learn about the different jobs that take place when building homes and also the difference ways you can keep yourself safe.

Last week I was very proud on Friday with the choir who made a visit to the Radioplus radio station in Coventry.  Not only was their singing amazing their behaviour was outstanding and a real credit to themselves.  The carols and interviews are set to be played over the Christmas period.  We’ll make sure we keep you up to date with these dates so you can listen at home.

On the festive topic there are some signup sheets on my office door where the children can sign up for their Christmas stalls!

    Class Highlights of the Week:
    Maple Class:

This week we are exploring non-fiction books all about Space and are finding out lots of interesting facts. We are learning to subtract in maths and are practising counting backwards.
    Cedar Class:
This week the children have been learning about money and applying this skill in problems. We are focusing on adverbs in year 3 this week and learning the rules for these spellings whilst year 2s have been continuing to learn the /l/ sound as il and al. Lastly, we have enjoyed using the computers to practice our typing and other word processing skills.
    Damson Class:
This week we have begun a new literacy topic focusing on biographies and in particular biographies about Roald Dahl.  Also, in maths we have been converting measures (grams and kilograms), measuring angles and identifying angle types.
    Oak Class:
A busy week calculating area and perimeter of shapes and analysing instruction texts. The highlight was making wartime recipes; vegetable soup and rock cakes, both of which were enjoyed by everyone.

This week started with our remembrance assembly on Monday.  We enjoyed a very moving poem written by Savannah which set the scene perfectly and the whole school impressed me during our two minutes silence.  As a school it has been lovely seeing our year 6 children selling the Poppies outside school every day and setting such a lovely example to the younger children.

Amidst our work for Remembrance, our choir have been busily preparing for our trip on Friday to Radio Coventry.  I am so proud of what the children have achieved in only a week, we’re not quite perfect, but we’re definitely enthusiastic!

This weekend we have cross country at Priors Field where I’m sure it will once again be a ‘little muddy’.  Good luck to all of the children taking part and many thanks to Miss V for attending.

A reminder that it is ‘Children in Need’ on Friday so we look forward to seeing the children in stripes, spots or teddy bear related clothing with a £1 donation.

    Class Highlights of the Week:

    Maple Class:
We learnt all about the importance of Remembrance Day on Monday and made a special poppy wreath. This week we have also been creating the next adventure story for Baby Bear and have enjoyed planning what he will do next!

    Cedar Class:
This week we have been adding and subtracting money in maths. In literacy the children have done brilliantly at using expanded noun phrases to describe Baba Yaga.

    Damson Class:
We have been writing instructions and explanations for our hot task in literacy this week, trying really hard to reach our targets and include the correct features.  Also, we have been planning our own scone recipe for our D and T topic this term - yummy!

    Oak Class:
Oak class enjoyed a trip to Coventry Cathedral -exploring the World War II underground museum and both modern and ancient Cathedral grounds.
We have been working with negative numbers and fraction walls in maths and developing our understanding of rationing.

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term.   I hope you all had an enjoyable rest at half term and that you are all ready for the build up to Christmas!

The children have come back to school with an air of excitement and enthusiasm that has been lovely to see.   We have some exciting things planned this term and one of the first is that our choir will be going to Radio Coventry next week (date to be confirmed but we have provisionally booked Friday) to record some Christmas Carols to be played over the Christmas period.  It’s all very exciting with lots to do, especially as we only found out the song titles yesterday!

On a very sad note, Mrs Choudry will be leaving us on the 15th November to start her new job as a Business Manager at a local school.  She will be greatly missed by all of us, as she offers the unique balance between efficiency and professionalism and the friendly face at the office who is always willing to help everybody.  I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing her the very best and acknowledging what a huge loss this is to Burton Green Academy.

I look forward to seeing some of you at our assembly on Friday when we will have a bumper helping of certificates from all of the hard work the children have put in during the week at school and the half term period!

    Class Highlights of the Week:

    Maple Class:

In Maths we have been measuring lengths. We have enjoyed measuring each other and other objects in the classroom. In Literacy we have been reading the book “Whatever Next” and creating our own version.
Cedar Class: We have started our topic by looking at the four different countries that make the United Kingdom.

    Damson Class:

This week we have been learning about our rights and responsibilities in terms of keeping ourselves and others safe through our Protective Behaviours work.  Also, we have been identifying our safe places and people who we can trust to go to when something isn't right.

    Oak Class:

Everyone in Oak class has worked very hard this week working to calculate multiplications including word questions. We also have been identifying features of non chronological reports. Our protective behaviours work has stimulated many interesting discussions.
