    Wed 17 May 2023

    Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week in school. We have all been so proud of the children and how they have coped with their SATS.

Within Oak class there has been a definite buzz after their SATS as they busily prepare for their enterprise project.  As I walked by, I was trying to decide whether it was more like Dragon’s Den or the Apprentice!

As the half term hurtles by I look forward to celebrating with you all on Friday as we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.  This will be the last celebration assembly before half term as next Friday is an INSET day.

I hope you all have a good weekend, when it finally arrives.

    Maple Class:
We are busy exploring weight and capacity this week in our maths lessons. We have used the bucket balance scales to compare the weight of different objects and have used cubes to balance the scales. In literacy, we are beginning to create our own non-fiction page about an African animal, and we have found out lots of interesting facts!

    Cedar Class
This week Cedar have been learning about subtracting 3-digit numbers in our maths (2-digit for year 2). In addition, in our topic work we have been learning about French artist Henri Rousseau and his famous oil paintings, Animals in the Jungle. The fabulous work on your homework has really helped us move forward in this learning.

    Damson Class:
Damson Class have been learning about decimals, improper and mixed number fractions in Maths. Whilst in Literacy, we are looking at tenses and the use of emotive language to persuade. We are also finding out about the geographical landscape in Ancient Egypt.

    Oak Class:
This week in Oak Class we have started to work on our enterprise project by learning about bank statements – money coming in and going out of accounts. We have also been doing some sewing and practicing for an upcoming athletics event. We are all looking forwards to our ‘Teambuilding’ day at All Saints ahead of our residential trip to Kingswood after half term.

    Wed 10 May 2023

    Dear Parents,
This has been a very busy week with our Year 6 class working hard on their SATS and our year 2 children busily continuing work on their SATS.

I am so impressed with the way in which the children take all of these things in their stride and deal with them with such a mature attitude.

This is partially due to their own resilience and attitude and also due to the hard work that our teachers and teaching assistants put into supporting the children to achieve their best, without putting untoward pressure.

A huge thank you to Miss V, Mrs Sembhi, Mr Nailor and Mrs Hind for supporting the children, in a way to help them achieve their best whilst still feeling happy and confident.

A special ‘Thank you’ also needs to go to Mrs T, Mrs Waite, and Mrs Wright who have worked so hard this week to ensure all of the Bacon Butties have been cooked to perfection. All I can say is that the aroma in the hall has made me hungry this week!

I hope you all managed to have an enjoyable weekend last week celebrating the Coronation and that you managed to spend some quality family time together.

Please note there is no celebration assembly this week due to the year 6 SATS, but we will be once again ‘Reaching for the Stars’ next week.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we are really enjoying our new text in Literacy – African Animal Alphabet. We are learning lots of interesting facts about animals that live in Africa and are exploring the features of non-fiction texts. In maths, we are exploring doubles and number bond facts and we are busy observing the changes to our bean seed in science.

    Cedar Class
This week we have been looking at mental arithmetic in Year 2 and Year 3, which has been useful in understanding patterns in numbers. In addition, we have been looking at the life of Nelson Mandela for our African Topic.  We have tried to understand how significant he was in South Africa and the world.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson Class, we are honing our editing skills in Literacy - to improve our writing work. Whilst in Maths we are looking at the 24hr clock and properties of polygons. We have also been looking at Egyptian hieroglyphics and have been writing our own names using the symbols.

    Oak Class:
Oak Class have been undertaking their SAT’s test this week and have dealt with them extremely well so far. The class are showing off what they can do and following all the advice they have been given. Miss V is very proud of every one of them.

    Thu 04 May 2023

    Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and managed to have some special time as a family.

Next week is a time when our year 6 children will get a chance to show what they have learnt over the past 4 years in key stage 2. I know you will join me to wish them well as they show what great students they are. I would like to thank Mrs T and Mrs Waite for again stepping up within breakfast club to provide a hearty breakfast to start the day.

I’m sure this will really inspire our year 6 children and make the rest of us hungry!

This Friday we will be having an assembly on the Coronation, so this won’t be a certificate assembly.  We will also be enjoying a Dance workshop on Thursday to celebrate the Coronation and a Street Party on Friday afternoon.

I hope you have an enjoyable long weekend and have an opportunity to take part in the Coronation celebrations as a family.

    Maple Class:
This week, we are learning all about the King’s coronation. We have been finding out all about King Charles and what will happen during the coronation. We are very excited for our dance workshop on Thursday and for our street party on Friday!

    Cedar Class
This week in mathematics, the children have been working really hard on the formal methods of addition and subtraction. The column method can be tricky, but they have done exceptionally well. In addition, we are continuing learning about Africa and in particular the climate and how it is different to our country.

    Damson Class:
This week in Literacy, Damson Class have been building their arguments for or against zoos, this is in preparation of writing persuasively. In Maths we are looking at place value of 4 and 5-digit numbers whilst doing our calculation work.

    Oak Class:
In the last week we have been focussed on revision of key areas for our SAT’s assessments. Everyone is concentrating hard and aiming high. The assessments are a chance for pupils to show off all they know, ahead of their moves to secondary school. I have told the class that they should blame me if their parents make them go to bed earlier - they need to be fresh and ready for next week.
