  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 29th January 2020

    Wed 29 Jan 2020

The children have again been working hard and it is lovely to see the hard work the children and staff put in to all of their learning.  Within school, I see such amazing learning within the arts, humanities and sciences, which really help to give the children the breadth of curriculum that they need at this age.  I know you will be all looking forward to talking about this learning and seeing it at our parent consultations that are coming up soon before half term.

I was very pleased this week to receive an email from Mathletics telling me that Ayaan in Cedar class had managed to secure first place in the UK's top 100 students. There are more than 4,000 schools in the UK using Mathletics so to secure 1st place is amazing!  Well done Ayaan keep up the good work 😊

The weather is still wet, but with occasional glimpses of cold.  Whilst unlikely, if there is any need to shut the school due to bad weather or an unforeseen event, we will be using the Warwickshire online system which notifies through the local radio, the text to parents system.

I look forward to seeing you all on Friday for our celebration assembly where we can celebrate once more!

    Class Highlights of the Week:
    Maple Class:

This week we are exploring the story of ‘Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs’ and we will be creating our own dinosaur adventure stories over the next few weeks! In maths we are learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s so could you please help us to practise this at home too.

    Cedar Class:

The children and I have been discussing online safety and strategies we can employ to do so. Our recent focus in Music and French has been on Camille Saint-Saens whereby we have been learning names of animals and listening to the famous Carnival of the animals.

    Damson Class:

We have been busy finishing our '500' word competition stories.  Also, in R.E we have considering why people choose to worship whilst also learning about the different features of a Hindu, Jewish and Christian places of worship.

    Oak Class:

Another busy week. We have been working on our career plans and working out how to step towards success. In RE we have been analysing 15 lessons given from the Sermon on the Mount in order to understand them more clearly. In numeracy we have been revising shape, angles, perpendicular and parallel.

  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 22nd January 2020

    Wed 22 Jan 2020

I must start the newsletter by saying how proud I was of the children who attended Young Voices last week.  It was a truly amazing experience that was made better by the behaviour and attitude of all the children of Burton Green Academy that attended this event and a huge thank you to the staff.  Well done everyone!

On another note I would like to welcome Mrs Lisa White to the Burton Green team.  Mrs White is our new administrator who is busy learning all of our systems.

Can I continue to remind you all about parking safely and not manoeuvring your cars near the children or in the staff car park.  Please ensure all people who pick up and drop your children are aware of this as child safety is a paramount concern of all of us at school.  I know the road gets very busy outside the school, but extra care and caution where there is still ‘poor light’ is necessary to avoid any accidents.

I must apologise that I am at a meeting on Friday and will miss our celebration assembly.  As always, I would ask you all to celebrate the children’s fantastic achievements and ensure they feel like the stars they are undoubtedly are.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, when it finally arrives.

    Class Highlights of the Week:
    Maple Class:
This week we are performing poems in literacy and have been making up some super actions to go with them! We are also going to be finding out all about Chinese New Year and will be tasting some different foods.

It was so lovely to welcome all of the children back to school this week and to hear about their exciting Christmas holidays.  It has been a nice time to talk through new starts, resolutions and also how you sometimes need to work really hard at something to become good.  Miss V talked about our acts of kindness tree where we are going to create leaves to represent our acts of kindness and our New Year resolutions.

I look forward to a very exciting and busy term.  We have an exciting event next week as some of our year 5 and 6 children will be attending the Young Voices event at Birmingham.  A chance for them to enjoy being part of the largest children’s choir in the country and to sing with some famous faces.  I hope you all have a lovely weekend when it arrives.

This week has been a really busy week in school with Christmas lunch, parties and the Panto! It is such a special time within school where we get to see the children enjoying the marvel of Christmas and their building excitement.  Last week we got a chance to appreciate the children’s amazing Christmas performances which wowed and amazed us on Friday evening.  I was so proud of the children and I’m sure as parents you were bursting with pride as they sang, performed and danced through the show.  Tomorrow afternoon it would be lovely if you could join us for the Carol concert where we will once again be able to appreciate the fantastic singing of the children and the lovely nativity scene from reception class children.

Many thanks for your generosity of the gifts and cards that have been given to all of the staff.  It is greatly appreciated.   If I don’t get a chance to see you beforehand I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and enjoy the time with your families.   If you are however available on Friday morning we will be having the last celebration assembly of the term.  Don’t forget your Christmas jumpers! It has been a really busy week with the preparation for the productions in readiness for the show on Friday!  I have had a few sneaky peeps and you are all in for a real treat.

Last Friday we had the amazing Christmas Fayre which has raised £2,242.31 (without expenses).  This is an amazing amount of money which really does support the school.  I would also like to mention that the children managed to raise £300 with their stalls.  I would like to thank everybody who supported this event by both attending, helping run stalls and then tidying up afterwards.  It is lovely to have such a community feel and see everybody working together for the good of the children within the school.

I would like to remind parents to not park in the Cala homes showroom car park as this is causing some issues.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend when it arrives and I look forward to seeing you on Friday for the performance.

Another busy week as our preparation for everything Christmas ‘hots up’.  The stage is up, rehearsal timetable is set and the singing is echoing through the school.   Year 6 on Friday will be adding entertainment to the Christmas meal being held at the village.  I know they have been practising to ensure their performance is as festive and polished as possible.

Could I please remind you to park sensibly and allow plenty of time at both drop off and collection times?  We are aware of the difficulties of parking issues and frustrations when there are traffic issues in and around school.  We would stress that the children are our priority and their safety is paramount.  Accidents can and do happen so please always take every precaution.   Thank you for your patience on these matters and your continued support.

I look forward to seeing you at our Christmas Fayre on Friday evening where we will once again have a fantastic time and also raise some money for the school.    Many thanks to our PTFA and all our helpers who have been busily preparing for this event and will be manning the stalls on Friday.  You are all definitely on Santa’s ‘Good list’.   Talking of which I believe Santa will be making an appearance in the very special Santa Chalet!
