  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 29th June 2022

    Wed 29 Jun 2022

    Dear Parents,
We have had a busy week preparing for our Summer Fayre this Friday evening.  We hope that as many of you as possible can join us for this exciting event (6-8pm).

I have had the chance this week to enjoy watching the children in Damson class extend their learning in shape and space.  I was very impressed with the children’s knowledge on this topic and how many of them could visualise the shapes without needing to look at them.

In Maple class I got to see how well they are doing in their phonics learning.  They are so fast at doing this now that they are almost as fast as the teachers!  Wow keep it up!

I look forward to seeing you on Friday when we will once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

I hope we can all have a restful (and dry) weekend.

    Maple Class:
This week has been very exciting as our caterpillars have become chrysalides and we have had two more tadpoles change into froglets!  We have also worked in teams to create our own Superworm stories and have used fantastic adjectives to describe.

    Cedar Class:
This week we have learnt a little more about the Rainhill trials and The Rocket, using historical evidence to create a timeline. In addition, the children have really enjoyed starting our new literacy topic on adventure stories.

    Damson Class
This week in Damson Class, we have been looking at area and perimeter in Maths and in Literacy, we are working hard to develop our editing skills. In Topic, we are learning about the life of Alexander the Great. In relation to this, we are thinking about whether our sources of information our reliable or not.

    Oak Class:
This week in Oak Class we have been focussed on our transition preparation ahead of our visits to secondary schools. Everyone is starting to feel fully prepared now. We have been finalising preparations for our enterprise project – we hope everyone will visit our stalls on Friday at the Summer Fayre. Learning about Banks and the way they make money has helped us to go over calculating interest rates too.

    Dear Parents,
It has been another busy and hot week!
Within school we are busily working within class and also our PTFA are busily preparing for our Summer Fayre on Friday 1st July.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all in on that evening and are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather.  If you are keen to volunteer, please contact the office and they will put you in contact with one of our PTFA team.

This week has been an exciting week in year 6 as the children have been enjoying their bikeability training.  So far, they have been lucky with the weather and have hopefully enjoyed this new and exciting challenge!

Last week we got to meet some of our new reception children and we will meet more of them this week.  There was a fantastic atmosphere in the classroom and I’m so proud of how the children in Maple class welcomed their new friends and showed them the routines and demonstrated great friendship.

We have lots going on over the following weeks so please keep reading the newsletter, emails and our texts to ensure you don’t miss out on anything! You can also subscribe to the School Calendar so that you can have all the events in your Phone calendar.

I look forward to seeing you on Friday when we will once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

I hope we can all have a restful (and dry) weekend.

    Maple Class:
We are really enjoying watching our tadpoles and caterpillars grow and are discussing the changes that we can see. We have started our new book – Superworm! We have been writing character descriptions using some super adjectives. In maths we are exploring odd and even numbers and we are continuing to build our minibeast hotel during Wellie Wednesday!

    Cedar Class:
Cedar class have finalised their digital artwork this week. We have been looking at our artist Arcimboldo who uses fruit to create wonderful artwork. In addition, we have been designing our own sandwiches for Mr Grinling in the lighthouse keeper’s lunch. The children have been carefully thinking about hygiene and look forward to making our sandwiches soon.

    Damson Class
Damson Class have been working on a combination of times tables and different multiplication methods in Maths this week. We have also been writing our short fantasy stories.
In Topic work, we are looking at the different type of sources of evidence around Ancient Greek artefacts.

    Oak Class:
This week most of Oak Class have completed both Bikeability parts 1 and 2 which is a fabulous achievement. We have also been spending time firming up our planned enterprise projects and designing advertising posters – you will see these around school next week. We are all getting prepared for the transition to secondary school with meetings planned next week for most of us in school.

    Wed 15 Jun 2022

    Dear Parents,
It is so lovely to have our year 6 children back in school with lovely beaming smiles after their week of adventure.

A huge thank you to Miss V and Mrs T who supported the children to try everything and have a wonderful time.

I was so pleased to hear of the achievements of Molly in Oak and Mila in Cedar.  They did fantastically at the athletics yesterday and Mila achieved a super impressive 4th out of the whole of central Warwickshire and Molly achieved a fantastic second out of the whole of Warwickshire.  What an amazing achievement!

I have been delighted today in seeing some of our new children joining us in Maple class this morning.  It is lovely seeing the existing children in Maple setting such fantastic examples of behaviour and showing the new children the routines and what they can play with.

Sorry that I needed to cancel Celebration Assembly last Friday.  It now means we have even more to celebrate this Friday, when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

    Maple Class:
We really enjoyed welcoming some of the new Reception children into Maple Class for a visit and were fantastic role models! We also have had an exciting visit from some ducklings that are only 1 week old and were able to hold them and name them. We have been learning to write descriptions of some of our favourite minibeasts.

    Cedar Class:
This week Cedar class have been learning to create digital artwork in the style of the artists we have looked at this term. In addition, we are reading the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch in our seaside topic and discussing making sandwiches for Mr Grinnling. Lastly, the children are very much enjoying and engaging with our literacy topic, Imaginary Fred. This is a book by the wonderful author Oliver Jeffers.

    Damson Class
This week Damson Class have been putting the final touches onto their pots by decorating their Grecian Pots with traditional Greek patterns.
In Maths, we are using short division and also using mental strategies to multiply.

    Oak Class:
This week we have been compiling a memory book of our time on the residential visit with photographs and diary style entries. We have also been finalising our enterprise project plans ready for the Summer Fayre. We are also preparing for transition visits later this term.

    Wed 08 Jun 2022

    Dear Parents,
It has been such a busy week back after half term.

Monday started with us waving Oak class, Miss V and Mrs T off on their exciting journey to the Isle of Wight.  The children had such huge smiles, that were only matched by the size of their bags!  Updates so far have indicated lots of fun adventures and some sun!

Back in school the children have settled back into the routines with lots of exciting learning.

Maple class were keen to get back to their learning and I know that the current reception children will be keen to show our ‘new’ reception children the toys and games that we play in school when they start visiting next week.

Our year 1 children will be completing their phonics assessment at the end of this week.

I was greeted with some lovely emails on our return regarding the fantastic mosaic that was designed by the children of the school and also the fabulous French Horn playing by Anna in Damson class.

Well done Anna some amazing playing and a very professional performance.  I have been told how this made the event very regal and made everybody feel very special :)

I look forward to celebrating with you all on Friday, when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

    Maple Class:
This week we are really enjoying our new story: Oi Frog! We have explored the rhyming words in the story and have thought of our own characters that we could add in too! In maths, we have been learning to order numbers all the way to 100 and have been practising our counting in 10s and 1s.

    Cedar Class:
This week Cedar have been reading the lighthouse keeper’s lunch and undertaking some more seaside activities. We have also started researching Arcimboldo an Italian artist who paints using fruit. This is very interesting and related to our D&T teaching this term using food.

    Damson Class
In Damson Class this week we have been making Grecian Pots with air dry clay and later, we will be decorating them with our own designs. We are also enjoying writing short stories that centre around finding a portal into another world too. Maths work is all about using ladder method to multiply numbers, expanded and contracted methods.

    Oak Class:
Our news this week is that Oak class are enjoying a fantastic time away at Kingswood, trying lots of new activities and making lots of amazing memories.
