  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 14th July 2021

    Wed 14 Jul 2021

    Dear Parents,
It was certainly a quieter Monday morning as the children came into school.  In school we have used the experience to talk about perseverance within out assemblies and talk about the goals we have in life.  Whilst not the result we wanted it was a good opportunity to help children explain that we can be proud and disappointed at the same time.

Coming to the end of this ‘strange year’ has been a good time to celebrate the amazing things that the children have achieved.  Our children have worked so hard in both their ‘in person’ and ‘remote’ learning and it is important to celebrate this as we prepare for them moving to their new year group or even their school.

You will receive a class photo later in the week and I would like to thank Miss Lucking for kindly taking all of these photos.  Due to Covid we were not able to book an external photographer so we are grateful for Miss Lucking in creating these memories for each child.

I look forward to celebrating with you at the end of the week when we once again ‘virtually’ reach for the stars!

    Maple Class:
We had a very exciting start to the week as we had a visit from some Police Officers! They told us all about what police do and we even got to try on some uniform and look around the police van! It was brilliant! We are also building our own lighthouses in our topic work this week.

    Cedar Class:
Thank you all for the kind donations of toilet roll and yoghurt pots to support our making of the African Rainmakers. The children have really enjoyed this topic and looking at African patterns and applying these to our designs. Hopefully you will enjoy the children practicing at home with their new instruments.

    Damson Class:
In Damson Class this week we are enjoying building Maze and Splat Games on Scratch in ICT. We are also going to be building an Ancient Egyptian Shadnuf in Design Technology this week too.

    Oak Class:
We have had an extremely busy week, we have been preparing memory books, cooking healthy snacks which we have shared, we have filmed our end of year play as well as completing our enterprise project – we raised £181 profit and a fabulous effort was made by everyone.

    Dear Parents,
It has been an enjoyable week with the preparation in Oak reaching ‘fever pitch’ as they not only prepare for their film, but also ensure they are ready to provide the enterprise orders.  I have been very lucky to also observe some of the lovely writing that has been going on in maple class as the children have put so much effort into their writing.

In our assemblies we have been once again thinking about Respect.  This week we have been thinking about respecting those who have different opinions to ourselves and also those who do so much.  This topic has been lovely to think about and I would encourage the children to think about friendships in and out of school and that whilst people might have different opinions, they can still be a good friend.

There is no celebration assembly this week as we will be spending this time taking class photographs.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend, when it finally arrives.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we are writing postcards and letters. We are thinking about when we might send them and are also writing them from characters in the ‘Sea Tiger’ story. In Maths we are revisiting number bonds up to 10 and 20 and are also practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

    Cedar Class:
This week the children will be researching the artist, Rousseau and in particular Animals in the jungle. This is an opportunity for the children to experiment with pastels and create an authentic scene. In addition, we will discuss tone and the relevance of this in art.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson class we have been writing our own poems. We have had to dig deep to find our inner poet – it turns out we have quite a few in Damson Class! We have also been working on Scratch in ICT to develop a maze game.

    Oak Class:
This week we have been extremely busy with preparing our enterprise goods. The items ordered will be given out to classes to bring home at the end of Thursday.
We have also been getting ready to film our end of school production on Friday.
