    Dear Parents,
We have had an enjoyable week where everybody has once again been working hard.

We have been continuing thinking about Trust within our assemblies and thinking about what qualities makes a person trustworthy.  This helps the children to think about how they can become trustworthy and a good friend to people within our school.

Rehearsals for our Christmas production are now well on the way and we are busily planning the start of December as we look forward to starting our Burton Green Advent calendar next week.  It is quickly becoming a very busy time of the year, but most definitely one full of excitement!

I look forward to celebrating with you all at the end of the week as we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’ in our assembly on Friday.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, when it finally arrives!

    Maple Class:

This week in Maple we have started to explore non-fiction books to find out some really interesting facts about space! In maths, we have been learning to use positional language and will also be learning to compare and measure length towards the end of the week.

    Cedar Class:
In Cedar class this week we have been weaving our own tartan patterns. As you know, we have been reading Katie Morag and finding out about where she lives and what it is like there. They have enjoyed making the tartan patterns as a new skirt for Katie.

    Damson Class:
In Damson Class this week we have been measuring angles using protractors (year 5) and converting weights between grams and kilograms (year 4). We are also looking at Classic Poetry in Literacy and performing some of the poems we are learning about.

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class we have been calculating; perimeter and area of various compound shapes and triangles as well as volume. We have been writing instructions connected to our world war topic work – using rationing recipes. We also cooked and tasted a lettuce, parsley and potato soup and some rock cakes.

    Dear Parents,
This week the children have been learning about anti-bullying week and have all come into school today wearing odd socks!

This helps the children recognise that it is ok to be an individual and ‘unique and special’ (as we say in our assemblies each day).  We are a caring and inclusive school, but it is always important to remind the children what it is like to ‘be different’ and to be aware of how we treat each other.

As I have been going around the school it is wonderful to see how the children are developing their love of English and how their writing is developing.  I have seen some lovely examples of the children analysing texts and using these ideas to support and develop their own writing.  I’m sure we have some budding writers in our midst!

Tomorrow the children are going to be coming into school in their PJs to support Pudsey Bear (a day early) as we have photographs booked for Friday.  What an exciting week!

I look forward to celebrating with you all on Friday, when we will once again be ‘Reaching for the Stars’.  Have a great weekend, when it finally arrives.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we are becoming story tellers! We have planned our own class story about the next adventure Baby Bear will go on after his trip to the moon in Whatever Next. In maths we are exploring number bonds and how many different ways we can make a number.

    Cedar Class:
This week in Cedar class we have started our protective behaviours unit in PSHE. This unit is based around how to be a good friend as well as how we can look after those we care about or are our friends. Equally, this unit will aim to equip children with skills to spot their early warning signs

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson class we have been looking at the artist William Morris in our topic work. We have been learning all about his many talents and trying to create repeating pattern designs in his style.
In Maths we are looking at decimal numbers and place value. Whilst in Literacy we are learning about explanation texts.

    Oak Class:
This week we the class retold the story ‘War Game’ by Michael Foreman in the form of a comic strip. We have been working to produce non-chronological reports in literacy and calculating fractions in numeracy. We have also started reciting our playscript for the Christmas show.

    Dear Parents,
We have had another busy week at school with children enjoying finding out about the climate talks that took place last week.  It is really lovely how the children are so passionate about making a change to protect our planet.  This was highlighted by our work at the start of term with our work with the Eco-church fayre.  Only yesterday I received an email from Zarah Sultana talking about Rowan’s (from Cedar class) amazing passion and effort in litter picking in the area.  I was so proud to read this and for it to be recognised by a local MP.

This week many of our children have been working on ‘quizzes’ that we complete termly.  It is lovely to see the children working so hard to try their best and then watching as they focus on the targets that are set.  The determination and resilience of the children is fantastic and is something that we continue to work on with our work on growth mindset.

As reminder our PTFA AGM is scheduled for tomorrow evening on Zoom and it would be great to see as many new faces as we can.

I look forward to celebrating the many achievements of the children with you on Friday when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

Have a good weekend, when it finally arrives.

    Maple Class:
This week we are enjoying retelling ‘Whatever Next!’ in literacy and are learning to order numbers in maths. We have also been learning about Remembrance Day and have been thinking about the importance of the poppy and what it is a symbol for.

    Cedar Class:
The children and I have enjoyed starting our remembrance activities in preparation for Thursday. We have learnt the importance of remembering and also the reasons why we remember.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson we are learning how to write instructions in Literacy and working on formal multiplication methods in Numeracy. We are also excited to start our new ICT topic on Animation and have been making flip books towards it.

    Oak Class:
This week we have started working on our Taking Care unit in PHSE understanding that we should all feel safe all of the time. We have also been looking at how we can contribute towards reducing global warming and our own carbon footprint.
In numeracy we have calculated using negative numbers and started our fraction calculation work.

    Dear Parents,
Welcome back to another busy half term at school.  I hope you had an enjoyable half term and you managed to enjoy some quality family time together.

As we have come back to school it has been lovely seeing the children settle quickly back into their routines and continue building on the firm foundations of learning that they started the term with.

It has been lovely to see the hard work the children have put in and the strides that the children in Maple class have made.

Looking at how sensible they are sitting in assembly, lining up and behaving is just wonderful to see.

I look forward to once again celebrating the children’s achievements on Friday with you all as we once again Reach for the Stars.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we have started our new ‘Space’ topic and have been having a great time pretending to be astronauts in our new rocket role play area. We have also been learning about the celebration of Diwali and have been tasting different foods in science.

    Cedar Class:
This week Cedar class have started their new topic ‘an Island Home’. We have begun to read stories about Katie Morag and research what it’s like to live in Scotland compared to England and our local area.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson Class we are thinking about building resilience in our learning – trying to push through our work, even when we are finding it hard.  We have also learnt about the struggle the Victorians had on a wash day; we will be using this to write instructions in our literacy work.  In maths we are using our number knowledge to problem solve.

    Oak Class:
This week has seen a positive attitude towards our learning in Oak Class, everyone is settling down to tasks much more quickly and quietly. We have recapped on multiplication methods in numeracy and written persuasively in literacy, as well as designing stained glass windows in RE.
