  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 19th October 2022

    Thu 20 Oct 2022

    Dear Parents,
It was so lovely to see so many of you at parent consultations this week finding out about how your child/children are doing at school.  I always think what a special time it is to share with your child their learning and see how far they have come.  This year was even more special as we were able to welcome you back ‘in person’.

We have had such a busy half term and I’ve been so proud of how the children have matured already this term.  Our new children in Maple class have settled in so well and it is fantastic to see them going about their learning within the classroom.

We have our Harvest Assembly on Friday when we will get to say ‘Thank you’ for all of the gifts we have been given.  We also have a collection of food which we will distribute to Kenilworth Food Bank.

I look forward to seeing you at our Harvest Assembly and I hope you have a lovely half term.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we have been learning all about the festival of Diwali. We created our own rangoli and mehndi patterns. We have also been learning about how Harvest is celebrated in the UK and have been busy practising our song for our Harvest Festival on Friday!

    Cedar Class
This week Cedar class have started our topic on The Great Fire of London. We have been learning about fire safety in the past and what it looks like nowadays. In addition, we have finalised our harvest festival ideas and can’t wait to show you this Friday.

    Damson Class:
In Damson class this week, we have been doubling and halving numbers in Maths. Whilst in Literacy, we have been writing our final pieces for Fables and Information Text.
We have also been making Stone Age Art, using Cave Art as our inspiration.

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class this week we have been revising subtraction strategies in Maths, creating conditional sentences in English and evaluating the Laying of Stones Assembly in RE. We have learnt a country dance ready for the harvest assembly on Friday and are currently selecting parts for the Christmas production! A busy week we are all looking forwards to half term.

    Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week where everybody has continued to work extremely hard.  I have seen the children across the school working hard to prepare for our Harvest festival which will be next Friday (21st October).

The highlight this week has been seeing our new children laying their stones in the Peace Garden.  It is always such a special occasion, but it has been made even more special this year as we were once again allowed to invite parents to share in this very special experience.

I look forward to seeing some of you on Friday at 9:10 when we once again celebrate the children’s achievements when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

    Maple Class:
This week we have been busy practising our song for Harvest festival and have created some super pieces of artwork linked to Harvest! We have also been sharing our favourite things, linked to our literacy text this week - ‘Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly’.

    Cedar Class
This week, the children have welcomed our new arrivals brilliantly in our peace garden assembly. They laid their stones and became a part of our school. In addition, our computing work has been really interesting, looking at digital devices and what an input and output device is.

    Damson Class:
In Damson Class this week, we are busy preparing for the Harvest Festival Assembly and enjoying our first ‘Warwickshire Sings’ session.
Aside from this, in Maths we are looking at column methods to add and subtract. Whilst in Literacy, we are writing fables.

    Oak Class:
This week we have been creating our own advertisements using persuasive devices in English. In maths we have been converting lengths and measures using multiplication and division calculations. In RE we have written harvest prayers and researched how harvest is celebrated in two other countries.

    Dear Parents,
It was so lovely on the weekend displaying the children’s recycling work for the Eco Fayre in Kenilworth.  The children were passionate about their ideas and making a difference and enjoyed sharing the ways in which we can all make a difference.

It is so lovely seeing the year 6 supporting their buddies in reception class.  It is something that was greatly missed last year, and I know that both year 6 and reception benefit greatly from this partnership.  Well done Oak class for being such great role models!

Parent consultation forms have come out this week for you to book an appointment to talk to your child’s teacher.  We look forward to talking to you about their progress and all of the things they have achieved.

I look forward to celebrating with you all during our celebration assembly on Friday at 9:10 in the hall.

Have a wonderful weekend, when it finally arrives!

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we have been learning about 2D shapes. We have been on shape hunts around our classroom and outdoor area and have also been sorting the shapes by their properties. In literacy, we have created our own characters and have been exploring our senses in science!

    Cedar Class
This week Cedar class have been learning about Harvest in America and the celebration of Thanksgiving. We have been thinking about the things that we’re thankful for and can’t wait
to show you in our harvest assembly at the end of term.

    Damson Class:
This week in Literacy, we have been undertaking research on the tabla drum, so we can write our own information text. Whilst in Maths, we have been converting analogue and digital times to 12 and 24hr clock.

    Oak Class:
This week we have been analysing war time advertisements, looking for examples of exaggeration and persuasion and exploring persuasive vocabulary. In maths we have been revising properties of triangles and calculating missing angles of shapes.
