    Wed 30 Nov 2022

    Dear Parents,
This week rehearsals have been continuing for both our production and carol concert.

It is so special to see the children rehearsing and embracing the opportunity to sing our traditional carols and the more modern songs that go with our production.

The classes have been busy creating their pictures for the advent calendar and we are looking forward to starting this exciting tradition tomorrow!

Within our assemblies this week we were thinking about the start of advent and what this exciting time of year means to us all.  We certainly enjoyed listening to ‘Ode to Joy’ as we came into the hall today.

Behind the scenes we are very grateful for the support of the PTFA as they support us with books for our library and new bean bags for our conservatory area.  In addition, they are once again supporting the school pantomime and they are already sorting out food for the Christmas parties and a sweet treat to enjoy during the pantomime. Their help and support is really appreciated.  Our school Christmas Fayre is ‘on’ this Friday (5:30-7:30pm) and it will be a great opportunity for everybody to support the school.

I look forward to once again reaching for the stars on Friday and then seeing everybody enjoying themselves at the Christmas Fayre!

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple we are busy practising our songs and dances for the Christmas show! We are also enjoying our new role play area – Santa’s Workshop and in literacy we have been writing some super descriptions about different Christmas characters.

    Cedar Class
We have started road safety week in style learning about how to be amazingly safe on and around the roads. We have completed some work on animation in our Computing lessons. We have been focusing specifically on Christmassy, stop-frame animations and the software we use to create these.

    Damson Class:
In Damson Class this week, we have been developing the complexity of our sentence structure in English and working on Division in Maths. In addition to this, we have been generating questions on the Stone Age settlement of Star Carr, as well as painting our Topic themed calendars.

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class, this week we have designed and created mini model World War II gardens they included Anderson shelters. We also wrote instructions (English) to inform readers of how we created our models. We have been working on our Christmas production as well as learning to calculate percentages in maths. It has been a busy week.

    Dear Parents,
We have had an enjoyable week where everybody has once again been working hard.

We have been continuing to think about Peace within our assemblies and thinking about how we can behave to encourage peace to others within our school and homes.

This helps the children to think about how they can become a good friend and encourage good behaviour and kindness within our school.

Rehearsals for our Christmas production are now well on the way and we are busily planning the start of December as we look forward to starting our Burton Green Advent calendar next week and our Christmas Fair on Friday evening!

It is quickly becoming a very busy time of the year, but most definitely one full of excitement!   We’ve even managed to fit in some first aid training for Damson and Oak amongst the Christmas festivities.

I look forward to celebrating with you all at the end of the week as we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’ in our assembly on Friday. I hope you have a lovely weekend, when it finally arrives!

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we have been creating super information posters about Hedgehogs to finish our non-fiction unit about nocturnal animals. We have also been practising our super adding skills in maths and have been exploring the properties of materials in science.

    Cedar Class
This week we have been working really hard on lots of Christmassy surprises including the songs for the performance. In addition, we have been securing our learning about The Great Fire of London. We will eventually be making Tudor houses out of Modroc and the children have been busy planning what these will look like.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson Class, we have been learning how to improve our descriptive writing in Literacy. Whilst in Maths, we have been using different methods to multiply 3 & 4-digit numbers. Aside from this, we have been busy rehearsing for our Christmas Production.

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class this week we have had a busy week with our Christmas Production rehearsals, a first aid training session – Flat Stan as well as a school visit to Coventry Cathedral and Herbert Art Gallery. Our trip was a great way to support our learning: in RE - identifying signs and symbols within the Cathedral and in our topic work with a World War II workshop at the gallery learning about roles people held in the home front.

    Dear Parents,
Last week finished with our remembrance assembly on Friday.  We enjoyed an opportunity to talk about the act of remembrance and what it means to us all.

I was very impressed with how the children marked the two minutes silence.  As a school it has also been lovely seeing our year 6 children selling the Poppies around school every day and setting such a lovely example to the younger children.

This week we have been thinking about anti-bullying week and the children have been completing work to help them think about what it feels like to be bullied and how we can stop this together.

A reminder that it is ‘Children in Need’ on Friday, so we look forward to seeing the children in a mixture of sporting clothes and parents are able to donate to Children in Need via our BGA Just Giving page!

They will also get an opportunity to take part in a danceathon led by the fantastic Mrs T!

    Maple Class:
This week is Anti-Bullying Week and we have been exploring this year’s theme – Reach out! We have been thinking about who we can talk to if we are feeling worried or upset and have been celebrating that we are all unique and special. We have also been discussing how we can show kindness to others and how we can be a good friend.

    Cedar Class
This week Cedar class have been writing letters about animals that have been stuck in all sorts of places. We will further look forward to our Great Fire of London topic by researching all about Tudor buildings.
We have been looking at how we can be kind and ‘reach-out’ to people who are feeling sad for anti-bullying week. The children have been demonstrating this kindness beautifully.

    Damson Class:
Damson Class made an exciting start to their week by enjoying a Stone Age Day. This was led by a member of Warwickshire Heritage and Culture team. The children were led through a computer game scenario, that they could only escape, by developing their skills and knowledge of the three different time periods within the Stone Age. During the day, the children were actively involved in sorting and handling of many Stone Age replica artefacts and learnt lots about Stone Age society and life. It was a great day that brought learning to life! In addition to this, we have also been covering the issue of Bullying during Anti-Bullying week too.

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class we spent time working on anti-bullying strategies under the theme of Reach Out. We have also covered the ideas behind Cop 27 and what we can personally do to reduce our carbon footprints. In maths we have started our fractions work and in topic work we now understand the range of different shelters that were used for protection in World War II.

    Dear Parents,
We have had another busy week at school with children enjoying finding out about the climate talks that are currently taking place and what it means for them and their future.

It is really lovely how the children are so passionate about making a change to protect our planet.  I feel more confident about our future when I listen to the passion I hear when our children talk about the planet.

Last week we were busy working on our ‘quizzes’ across the school.  It is lovely to see the determination the children show and their resilience and growth mindset as they take on all of the challenges.

A reminder that our PTFA AGM is scheduled for the 17th November and we also have a film night happening this Friday!

Please note that there is no Celebration Assembly this week, as we will be holding a special Remembrance Assembly with the Children in School. I look forward to celebrating the many achievements of the children with you again next week (Friday 18th November), when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

Have a great weekend, when it finally arrives.

    Maple Class:
This week we are enjoying learning lots of facts about nocturnal animals and sharing what we already know about them. In maths, we are exploring our number bonds up to 10. Reception have been superstars at finding different ways to make 5 (e.g. 4+1 / 3+2) and year 1 have been exploring how to make numbers all the way up to 10!

    Cedar Class
This week we have been continuing our learning about The Great Fire of London. We have looked at what fire safety was like in 1666 and what it is like now and compared both. In addition to this we have started our computing topic on quizzes.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson Class we have been learning about the Mesolithic Age in our topic work. When Britain became an island, what people wore and ate are some of the interesting facts we have been researching.  In Literacy we have been writing some descriptive sentences about Horrid Henry and his long-suffering brother Perfect Peter!

    Oak Class:
This week in Oak Class we have been calculating negative numbers as well as area and perimeter in maths. In English we have written letters to parents convincing them to evacuate their children – away from the perils of war. We have also read and retold the story War Games by Michael Foreman (World War I) as part of our Remembrance work.

    Dear Parents,
Welcome back to another busy half term at school. I hope you had an enjoyable half term and you managed to enjoy some quality family time together.

As we have come back to school it has been lovely seeing the children settle quickly back into their routines and continue building on the firm foundations of learning that they started the term with.

It has been lovely to see the hard work the children have put in and the strides that the children in Maple class have made.

Looking at how sensible they are sitting in assembly, lining up and behaving is just wonderful to see. I look forward to once again celebrating the children’s achievements on Friday with you all as we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we have started our new topic ‘Colour and Light’ and have enjoyed talking about the celebrations that happen during this time of year. We have also explored more poems in Literacy and have been fantastic at identifying the rhyming words!
