  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 26th April 2023

    Wed 26 Apr 2023

    Dear Parents,
Welcome back after what I hope has been an enjoyable Easter break for all. It was so lovely to see some ‘sun’ and it has really set the scene for our summer term!

On another lovely note I have seen a few excited faces since we have been back as the children starting school in September have now received their special letters.

We look forward to welcoming them into school for induction visits later in the term.

I’m sure that you don’t need reminding that we are quickly approaching end of Key Stage Assessment in both Year 2 and Year 6. Teacher Assessments take place throughout May for Year 2 and it is important that the children are in school every day to enable us to group them most appropriately. Year 6 SATS week begins Tuesday 9th May.

I hope you have a good rest of the week and I look forward to celebrating with you on Friday when we ‘Reach for the Stars’.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class, we have enjoyed reading ‘Wolf Won’t Bite’ by Emily Gravett and have planned our own events to add into the story! We are exploring number bonds in maths and started our plants topic in science by going on a plant hunt around our school.

    Cedar Class
This week Cedar have started our African- Geography topic by comparing the weather in the UK to the weather in Southern Africa.
The children have learnt words to describe the weather as well as learning about the Equator and how it is hotter the nearer you are to the Equator.

    Damson Class:
In Damson Class this week, we are looking at persuasive writing in Literacy and have been using the topic of zoos, to explore for and against arguments. Whilst in Maths, we are working on division and multiplication using formal methods.

    Oak Class:
This week we have been completing revision work in preparation for our SAT’s that we are due to sit in May. We have been analysing features of balanced arguments and we have now written one of our own. In art we have drawn people in action, and we are now improving our skills in
    this area.
