  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 18th May 2022

    Thu 19 May 2022

    Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week as the children have started preparing and planting our vegetable garden.  It is so lovely seeing the children busily weed, dig and plant and then their anticipation as they wait for it to grow.

Damson class enjoyed the return of Mrs B last week.  It was like she had never left as she once again slotted back into our fabulous team.

Within Oak class there has been a buzz after the SATS as they busily prepare for their enterprise project.  As I walked by I was trying to decide whether it was more like Dragon’s Den or the Apprentice!

As the half term hurtles by I look forward to celebrating with you all on Friday as we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.  This will be the last celebration assembly before half term as next Friday is an INSET day.

I hope you all have a good weekend, when it finally arrives.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we have been continuing using non-fiction texts to find out about different vehicles. We have split into teams to make our own non-fiction books and will be sharing them on Friday with each other. In maths, we have been measuring weight and capacity.

    Cedar Class:
This week children are exploring coastlines in our topic and particularly how they are formed and created. In maths, Year 3 are learning how to add and subtract fractions whilst Year 2 are working on efficient strategies to solve 2-digit addition. In literacy we are aiming to write out our voyage from the Sinbad stories which the children have enjoyed over the past 3 weeks.

    Damson Class
In Damson Class this week we have been looking at fantasy fiction text in Literacy. The children are very excited by this genre and we look forward to some great writing! In Maths we are looking at mental strategies for adding/subtraction and fractions. In topic we are developing our designs on Ancient Greek pottery in readiness to make some of our own.

    Oak Class:
This week we have started our new text – Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, it has sparked the classes imagination. It is interesting to see how many of the class would like to travel the world.
In our maths work we are focussed on finances - learning about bank accounts, credit, debit and debt, overdrafts and the way banks make their money through loans and mortgages.
We also watched a Road Safety Assembly and will be involved in a workshop with Warwickshire Road Safety on Thursday.

    Wed 11 May 2022

    Dear Parents,
This has been a very busy week with our Year 6 class working hard on their SATS and our year 2 children busily continuing work on their SATS.  I am so impressed with the way in which the children take all of these things in their stride and deal with them in such a mature attitude.

This is partially due to their own resilience and attitude and also due to the hard work that our teachers put into supporting these children to achieve their best, without putting untoward pressure.  A huge thank you to Miss V, Mrs Sembhi, Miss Lucking, Mr Nailor and Mrs Hind for supporting the children in a way to help them achieve their best whilst still feeling happy and confident children.

A special ‘Thank you’ also needs to go to Mrs T and Mrs Waite who have worked so hard this week to ensure all of the Bacon Butties have been cooked to perfection.  All I can say is that the aroma in the hall has made me hungry this week!

I hope everybody enjoys their weekend (when it comes) and I look forward to 'Reaching for the Stars’ when Friday comes.

    Maple Class:
This week we are finding out all about bikes within our ‘On the Move’ topic. We have been comparing bikes to those created in the past and have been finding out about the links with Coventry. We have also been enjoying riding some in our outdoor area! In maths we have been doubling and exploring number bonds to 10.

    Cedar Class:
This week I would like to extend a HUGE well done to the Year 2 children who began their SATs. They tried their best and were very resilient. In their learning this week, the children have been finishing and evaluating Sinbad the Sailor. We have been discussing which voyages we liked the best and then performed our favourite ones using excellent expression.

    Damson Class
This week in Damson Class we have been writing persuasive arguments in Literacy and using column addition to add 4 & 5 digit numbers in Maths. We have also enjoyed looking at Ancient Greek artefacts and are currently designing amphoras of our own. As usual, Damson Class have produced an amazing array of unique Grecian inspired pots.

    Oak Class:
This week I am super proud of all the pupils in Oak Class. Everyone has been undertaking the SAT’s tests in a calm, organised and mature way. It is a time for the class to show off what they know and they are doing themselves proud.
We also did a spot of gardening by helping to clear the raised beds which were in great need of weeding.
    Well done Year 6.

    Wed 11 May 2022

    Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and managed to have some special time as a family.

As this term progresses it is clear how many things we are trying to fit in.  Next week is a time when our year 6 children will get a chance to show what they have learnt over the past 4 years in key stage 2.  I know you will join me to wish them well as they show what great students they are.

I would like to thank Mrs T and Mrs Waite for again stepping up within breakfast club to provide a hearty breakfast to start the day.  I’m sure this will really inspire our year 6 children and make the rest of us hungry!

You will have been notified about athletics trials that are taking place at Edmonscote track next Thursday.  We always try to give as many children as possible this experience, but invariably there are always children that are disappointed.  I know the children will all do us proud as they show the much bigger schools what we have to offer at Burton Green.

This Friday we will be having an assembly by the Dog’s Trust, so the certificates listed this week will be given out next week.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend and the sunny weather comes back!

    Maple Class:
We are really enjoying our new story this week – The Hundred Decker Bus. We have been very imaginative and designed what we would make as a deck on the bus. We’ve had a swimming pool, a zoo deck, a funfair and many more super ideas! In Maths we have been revisiting number bonds and we have been exploring material properties in Science.

    Cedar Class:
We have enjoyed learning about the oceans of the world and identifying the countries of the UK. The children really got into fractions and finding fractions of amounts in year 2 and finding tenths in year 3. In addition, we have been reading Sinbad the Sailor and about his voyages. We have been comparing this to other traditional tales.
SATs are just around the corner for us in Year 2 and the children have been working extremely hard. We are reminding the children how resilient they are and that this is a fantastic opportunity for them to show us what they have!

    Damson Class
This week in Damson Class we have been working on coordinates in Maths and writing persuasive songs in Literacy. In addition to this we have enjoyed learning about photo editing in ICT.

    Oak Class:
This week we have been having a final revision push in preparation for our SAT’s tests next week. Everyone has been working extremely hard across all subject areas. Aside from revision, we have also been writing balanced arguments regarding graffiti, sketching sea shells, and learning how coastal features are formed.
