  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 20th October 2021

    Wed 20 Oct 2021

    Dear Parents,
It has been a busy week with the children eagerly trying to impress their teachers in preparation for our parent consultations at the start of the week.

Whilst it is sad that we haven’t been able to see you all in school it has been nice to hear the teachers talking about the positive meetings that have taken place.

The parent consultations have given us a time as a school to reflect and talk through not only the children’s academic progress, but the way they continue to adjust to the changes that were imposed on them.

The recording of the Harvest assembly will be sent out on Friday for you to enjoy with your child.

I am so pleased with everything that has been achieved this half term and hope that you enjoy a lovely half term break.

    Maple Class:

This week we are exploring the story ‘The Little Red Hen’ to help us think about Harvest time. We are learning to retell the story and are thinking about the characters choices in the story. In maths, we are comparing numbers to identify which is the greater number/amount and the lower number/amount.

    Cedar Class:
This week Cedar Class have retold the tale of the enormous turnip in our harvest assembly. This was a great way to show how difficult harvest can be for the farmers and others involved. Therefore, we were able to give thanks for all that we have. Well done Cedar!

    Damson Class:
This week we have been performing our own poetry and prayers for our Harvest Festival assembly. We have also had great fun using instructional texts in Literacy, to learn card games. It took Mrs O and Mrs T right back to their childhoods!

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class we have been busy writing persuasive texts over the week – selling houses and writing persuasive letters. We have been revising subtraction and calculating multiplication questions using column method. We have filmed our Harvest Festival and we have helped our Buddies in the Laying of Stones Assembly.

    Wed 13 Oct 2021

    Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week with the children enjoying their learning.  I have had a lovely opportunity to look at some of the English books this week and it has been very special to see how the children are trying their hardest with their presentation and taking great care and pride in their work.

Next week we will be having our parent consultations which will once again be virtual.  This will be a great opportunity to talk through how your child has settled into their new group and their targets for the term.

Many thanks for your continued support with all of the requests for getting PCR and LFD tests.  This support is vital in keeping the school as safe as can be for the children, staff and the wider community.

I look forward to celebrating with you at our celebration assembly on Friday.

    Maple Class:
This week we have been enjoying the story – Billy's Bucket. We have been using our imagination to share what we might see inside it! In maths, we are exploring 2D shapes and have been shape hunting around our school.

    Cedar Class:
This week our harvest preparations have begun! The children have enjoyed learning about harvest as well as our story we are re-enacting, The Enormous Turnip. We will be creating some harvest art as well as a performance.

    Damson Class:
In Damson Class this week, we have been writing stories in a classic fiction style in Literacy and in Maths we have been looking at fraction equivalents. We are also busy preparing for Harvest Celebration next week.

    Oak Class:
This week in Oak Class we have been converting measures of length and mass and calculating time intervals in numeracy. In literacy we have analysed advertisements to assess persuasive devices and we created adverts of our own. We have also written using formal language.

    Wed 06 Oct 2021

    Dear Parents,
It was so lovely on the weekend displaying the children’s recycling work for the Eco Fayre in Kenilworth.  The children were passionate about their ideas and making a difference and enjoyed sharing the ways in which we can all make a difference.

It is so lovely seeing the year 6 supporting their buddies in reception class.  It is something that was greatly missed last year, and I know that both year 6 and reception benefit greatly from this partnership.  Well done Oak class for being such great role models!

Parent consultation forms have come out this week for you to book an appointment to talk to your child’s teacher.  We look forward to talking to you about their progress and all of the things they have achieved.

I look forward to celebrating with you all during our celebration assembly on Friday.

Have a wonderful weekend, when it finally arrives!

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we have been exploring a new story called ‘Not a Stick’ and have been using our imaginations to think about what the stick could become – we've had some brilliant ideas! In Science, we have started to explore our senses and this week we explored our sense of smell. We also enjoyed our first Wellie Wednesday session that was all about Autumn!

    Cedar Class:
This week in Cedar Class we have been creating our own castle and looking virtually at the best locations we could choose. This has given us an insight into castle defences. We have also started our French teaching so hopefully the children will be bringing home some handy phrases in no time.

    Damson Class:
In Damson class this week, we have been learning about digital and analogue times in Maths and Classic Fiction in Literacy. We have also been looking at the work of William Morris and using them to inspire our own unique designs.

    Oak Class:
We have focussed our history, literacy and art work this week on our World War II topic looking at advertisements in literacy, creating propaganda posters in art and writing letters from an evacuee’s point of view in history.
