  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 29th September 2021

    Wed 29 Sep 2021

    Dear Parents,
It has been lovely seeing the children’s work on recycling and being environmentally friendly that they have been producing this week.  The children are so keen and this is an area (as a school) we are wanting to encourage and support.  I am looking forward to meeting our ‘Eco Warriers’ this week to discuss our strategy!

We are busy planning for our DT day, that is coming up soon, where we are looking at developing the textile skills of the children.  I’m sure they are going to produce some amazing things that you will enjoy displaying at home.

Our church youth worker today continued her theme of ‘Respect’ and it was good to hear about what the children had done to show respect since the last time they met.  Their challenge this week is to think about how they treat people, who they perceive are ‘different’ and do they make them feel welcome and care for them.  Hopefully these assemblies will enable them to be as inclusive as possible to everybody they meet and to embrace new and diverse friendships.

I look forward to celebrating the children’s with you at our celebration assembly.

    Maple Class:

This week in Maple Class we are learning about ‘Real Superheroes’ - the people who help us every day. We have been describing them and thinking about ways we can say thank you. We have also been thinking about how to be more environmentally friendly and have been finding out about different ways to reuse and recycle.

    Cedar Class:

This week Cedar class have been learning how to be environmentally friendly. I wonder if at home they will use some of those strategies they have learnt to look after their own environment.

    Damson Class:

This week in Damson Class we have been researching ways to save energy in school and at home. We used what we learnt, to make and design eye catching posters for a display to educate others. In numeracy we are learning about 12 & 24hr clock times and in literacy we are writing newspaper reports.

    Oak Class:

This week in Oak Class we have been sitting our baseline assessment SAT papers so we can see what we are working towards at the end of year 6. We have also created symbols which represent us individually - in RE and we have created posters to show what things we can compost in PSHE.

    Dear Parents,

It has been another busy week with the children continuing to enjoy their learning in school.

Within our assemblies we have been focusing on ‘Thankfulness’ and thinking about all of the food that we are thankful for and the hard work that goes into ensuring we have plenty of food to eat.

It was nice to see so many people attending our virtual welcome evenings last week which gave the teachers an opportunity to talk through expectations, routines and topics whilst hopefully giving you a flavour of what to expect this year.

I hope you enjoyed the recording of the virtual assembly that was sent out last week.  We will be reviewing parents attending these after October half term, but at the moment our key priority is ensuring we keep all members of our community as ‘Covid free’ as possible.

I hope you have a good weekend when it finally arrives and I look forward to celebrating the children’s achievements on Friday when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

    Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we are really enjoying our new story – Supertato! We have been busy trying to stop the Evil Pea causing mischief and have also created our own superfruit and superveg characters. We have been using some great adjectives to describe them.

    Cedar Class:
The children have really enjoyed learning about the abstract artist Paul Klee this week, in particular his painting ‘Castle in the Sun’. We evaluated his painting and then created our own.

    Damson Class:
In Damson Class this week the children have been learning about recounts and in doing so, reading about UFO sightings. This has stirred their imaginations and this week they will write some of their own. We are hoping for some out of this world writing!

    Oak Class:
In Oak Class this week we have revising our addition skills using decimal numbers and calculating money problems. In literacy we have written our own stories on the theme of ‘outsiders’ and how they are received. We have also been working in groups to produce posters on about composting outlining the benefits of it.

    Thu 16 Sep 2021

    Dear Parents,
It was so lovely to welcome the children back last week and to see how well they settled into their new routines and in many cases new classrooms.

Seeing our new children join us in Maple class put a huge smile on my face as they came in and made new friends and developed new skills.

I have been impressed with our new year 6 children and the way in which they have already risen to the challenges of being ‘top of the school’.  I’m sure they will continue to impress us all and make Miss V proud.

On Friday we will be celebrating the achievements of the children in the hall for our celebration assembly and we will be endeavouring to record this for you to enjoy at home.

I can’t wait to celebrate with the children this week and ‘Reach for the Stars’.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend when it finally arrives!

    Maple Class:
We have really enjoyed welcoming the new reception children into our class! They have been superstars and the Year 1 children have been fantastic at helping them. We are very proud of you all! This week we have been thinking about superheroes and will be exploring some stories with superheroes over the next few weeks

    Cedar Class:
This week the class have really enjoyed starting their castle topic. We have started by introducing Motte and Bailey castles with the thought of moving forward in time eventually to William the Conqueror. The children have really tried their best today and we’re very proud of them.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson Class aside from getting to grips with our new routines we have been learning about Recounts in Literacy, Column Addition in Numeracy and we have also started our new topic of the ‘Victorians’.

    Oak Class:
This week we have been rounding decimals and converting them to fractions successfully. In literacy we have been considering what it is like to be a refugee – we have compared the differences of how we would be treated if we were a refugee or visitor. We have had a busy but productive week overall.
