  It has been a lovely start of the week with the sun shining on us.  It has been great to see all of the children outside enjoying their playtimes and having the opportunity to play in the sun.

   

  The children have been really motivated in their learning and I must admit I am really enjoying the dough disco in Maple class 😊

   

  It was lovely to once again have parent consultations this week.  Whilst I haven’t had an opportunity to talk to many of you, I do get feedback from the teachers who enjoy celebrating your children’s achievements during these times.  It is important to recognise that lockdown will have had an impact on the children’s education, but with a carefully mapped out plan the children will achieve their full potential.  Education is more than filling gaps, it is about ensuring the children have a journey within education and life that helps them discover, develop and flourish.

  Maple Class: 
  This week we have been enjoying the story ‘Wolf Won’t Bite’ by Emily Gravett and have been making up our own versions of the tale. We have also been exploring number bonds in maths and have been on a plant hunt during Wellie Wednesday.

   

  Cedar Class: 
  Recently we have been really focusing on science in Cedar Class. The children in Year 3 have really enjoyed finishing their light, dark and shadow topic this half term, whilst the Year 2s have enjoyed being young gardeners. We have planted sunflowers and also set up our experiment about germination. Well done for all the hard work this week!

   

  Damson Class: 
  This week in Damson Class we have been learning about the importance of keeping safe online. The children were presented with different scenarios and had to decide what action they should take to keep safe. It was good to note that the children had a good understanding of the issues already. In maths we have been comparing 2 place decimals, linking fractions to percentages and in literacy we are looking at stories from the past.
   

  Oak Class: 
  This week we have been identifying features that authors use to give background information in stories. We have also been identifying features of coastlines and discussing our preferences for holidays. In numeracy we have revised rounding decimal numbers (to two decimal places) and positive and negative numbers.

  It is so lovely to see the children return for the summer term.  It is hard to believe that last year we were in the midst of lockdown without an end in sight.  At the moment the school is continuing to following the Covid protocols that have been put in place by the DFE (such as staggered start times, break times and bubble groups), but as a school we will be reviewing these when the opportunity arises.

   

  As we embark on the term we are planning for a ‘near normal’ end with some of our traditional events, but this is all reliant on the government reduction of restrictions.  I look forward to the time when I can welcome parents back into the building and celebrate the children’s many talents and achievements.  The sound of applause as the children sing a song, recite a poem will be quite magical and I know our year 6 children will probably never let their buddies go when they get to be fully part of their lives!

   

  On a more practical note please ensure you allow as much time as you can for school pick ups as road closures seem to becoming more prevalent and unfortunately we are not always informed of these ahead of time.

  Maple Class: 
  This week we have started our new topic ‘How does your garden grow?’ and have created our own Garden Centre! We have also been exploring finding more and less in Maths and have been thinking about what makes a good friend in PSHE.
   

  Cedar Class: 
  In Cedar class we have embarked on our new topic, aboard the HMS Beagle, learning all about Charles Darwin and the Galapagos Islands. The children have really enjoyed researching all about the history of these islands as well as the animals that inhabit them.
   

  Damson Class: 
  This week in Damson Class we have started our new history topic - the Ancient Egyptians.  We began by travelling back in time and comparing events in British history with what was happening in Egypt at a similar time.  Also, we have been finishing out fairy tale topic in literacy, planning, drafting and improving our own version of a fairy tale using lots of great writing features.  
   

  Oak Class: 
  Everybody has come back to school ready to work hard for the summer term. We have started our Harry Potter unit of work in literacy – focussing on writing memories. In numeracy, we are revising calculation methods and applying these in reasoning questions. Our topic this term is Coastlines which give us the chance to discuss holidays we have experienced.
