Burton Green Academy Newsletter 17th May 2023

Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week in school. We have all been so proud of the children and how they have coped with their SATS.

Within Oak class there has been a definite buzz after their SATS as they busily prepare for their enterprise project.  As I walked by, I was trying to decide whether it was more like Dragon’s Den or the Apprentice!

As the half term hurtles by I look forward to celebrating with you all on Friday as we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.  This will be the last celebration assembly before half term as next Friday is an INSET day.

I hope you all have a good weekend, when it finally arrives.

Maple Class:
We are busy exploring weight and capacity this week in our maths lessons. We have used the bucket balance scales to compare the weight of different objects and have used cubes to balance the scales. In literacy, we are beginning to create our own non-fiction page about an African animal, and we have found out lots of interesting facts!

Cedar Class
This week Cedar have been learning about subtracting 3-digit numbers in our maths (2-digit for year 2). In addition, in our topic work we have been learning about French artist Henri Rousseau and his famous oil paintings, Animals in the Jungle. The fabulous work on your homework has really helped us move forward in this learning.

Damson Class:
Damson Class have been learning about decimals, improper and mixed number fractions in Maths. Whilst in Literacy, we are looking at tenses and the use of emotive language to persuade. We are also finding out about the geographical landscape in Ancient Egypt.

Oak Class:
This week in Oak Class we have started to work on our enterprise project by learning about bank statements – money coming in and going out of accounts. We have also been doing some sewing and practicing for an upcoming athletics event. We are all looking forwards to our ‘Teambuilding’ day at All Saints ahead of our residential trip to Kingswood after half term.
