  • Burton Green Academy Newsletter 28th June 2023

    Wed 28 Jun 2023

    Dear Parents,
We have had a busy week preparing for our Summer Fayre this Friday evening.  We hope that as many of you as possible can join us for this exciting event (6-8pm).

I have had the chance this week to enjoy watching the children in Damson class extend their learning in co-ordinates and was really impressed with the pictogram work in Maple class.

In Maple class I also got to see how well they are doing in their phonics learning. They are so fast at doing this now that they are almost as fast as the teachers! Wow, keep it up!

I look forward to seeing you on Friday when we will once again ‘Reach for the Stars’. I hope we can all have a restful (and dry) weekend and lots of fun at the fayre on Friday evening!

    Maple Class:
We have been superstars the past two weeks at welcoming our new reception children into school during their settling in visits! We have started our new literacy unit - ‘Letters and Postcards’ and have been looking at when they might be sent. In maths we are exploring time and we are also collecting information using pictograms!

    Cedar Class
This week the year 3s have been looking at shapes and lines; parallel, perpendicular and also perimeter. Year 2s have been focused on ordering numbers. Cedar have also been reading stories from the past, like Flat Stanley and Madeline. The children have really enjoyed learning about these stories and looking at our Grammar work surrounding these topics.

    Damson Class:
In Damson Class we have been reading and plotting coordinates of polygons in Maths. Whilst in Literacy we have been reading African folklore stories and deciphering their hidden messages. We are also learning more about the evolution in design of the Egyptian pyramids.

    Oak Class:
This week we have had a visit from the school nurses for a session about ‘Emotional Wellbeing and Healthy Eating’. We have been finalising our enterprise projects and creating our advertising posters as well as learning to consider the difference between Needs Vs Wants. We have also learnt about how banks make their money what we should consider when choosing an account. In english we have written concise messages relating to our text – Kensuke's Kingdom.

    Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week with some heavy showers in between the sunshine!

Within school we are busily working within class and also our PTFA are busily preparing for our Summer Fayre on Friday 30th June. We are looking forward to welcoming you all in on that evening and are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather (without the showers).

If you are keen to volunteer, please contact the office and they will put you in contact with one of our PTFA team.

Last week was exciting as Damson and Oak classes attended Alive Praise 2023.  It was a fantastic event, although I do feel our ears were ‘ringing’ from the enthusiasm and noise!

This week we got to meet some of our new reception children and we will meet more of them over the coming weeks. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the classroom and I’m so proud of how the children in Maple class welcomed their new friends and showed them the routines and demonstrated great friendship.

We have lots going on over the following weeks so please keep reading the newsletter, emails and our texts to ensure you don’t miss out on anything!

You can also subscribe to the School Calendar so that you can have all the events in your Phone calendar.

I look forward to seeing you on Friday when we will once again ‘Reach for the Stars’. I hope we can all have a restful (and dry) weekend

    Dear Parents,
It is so lovely to have our year 6 children back in school with lovely beaming smiles after their week of adventure.

A huge thank you to Miss V, Mr Nailor and Mrs T who supported the children to try everything and have a wonderful time.

I was so pleased to hear of the children during our sporting events on Monday afternoon. They all did fantastically well and I’m so proud of their resilience and determination to achieve their best.

I was delighted last night to meet some of our new pupils and their parents who will be joining us in September.  It is so lovely to meet new people who will be becoming part of our Burton Green family.

Tomorrow Damson and Oak class are looking forward to our Alive Praise event.  It should be a great time for everybody to be together as a big Diocesan family and to celebrate.

On Friday we will be once again ‘Reaching for the Stars’ and I look forward to seeing you there.

    Dear Parents,
It has been such a busy week back after half term.

Monday started with us waving Oak class, Miss V, Mr Nailor and Mrs T off on their exciting journey to the Isle of Wight. The children had such huge smiles, that were only matched by the size of their bags!

Updates so far have indicated lots of fun adventures lots of sun and some sleep!

Back in school, the children have settled back into the routines with lots of exciting learning. Maple class were keen to get back to their learning and I know that the current reception children will be keen to show our ‘new’ reception children the toys and games that we play in school when they start visiting over the upcoming weeks.

Our year 1 children will be completing their phonics assessment next week to see how they have been progressing with their fabulous learning in phonics.

Next week will be a very busy week as on Monday afternoon the Keystage 2 children will enjoy an afternoon of sports/athletics. Some of them will be enjoying sporting activities with All Saints’ at their school and some will be representing their school at the Kenilworth athletics competition. Good luck to everybody and I hope you have a fantastic time.

    Maple Class:
What an exciting first week back we have had! We started our new ‘Pirates’ topic but on Tuesday all of our treasure was stolen! We are on the lookout for clues to find which pirate stole it and will be creating some ‘wanted posters’ to help get our treasure back.
