    Wed 15 May 2024

    Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week in school. We have all been so proud of the children and how they have coped with their SATS.

Within Oak class there has been a definite buzz after their SATS as they busily prepare for their enterprise project. As I walked by, I was trying to decide whether it was more like Dragon’s Den or the Apprentice!

Once again huge thanks go to the breakfast team (Mrs T, Mrs Jones and Mrs Wright) who have once again done an amazing job at preparing the children for their SATS with an amazing cooked breakfast Bap!  Well done Mrs T for once again exceling with your cooking skills and looking after the children in Oak class.

As the half term hurtles by, I look forward to celebrating with you all on Friday as we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’. This will be the last celebration assembly before half term as next Friday is an INSET day.
I hope you all have a good weekend, when it finally arrives.

    Maple Class:
We are exploring weight in maths and have used the bucket balance scales to compare the weight of different objects. We will also be exploring capacity too this week and will compare how much different containers hold. In English, we are busy creating information leaflets about bicycles in preparation for our trip to the Transport Museum.

    Cedar Class:
Cedar have shown amazing teamwork and kindness this week as we have started a new poetry unit. They have tried very hard to perform poems aloud and supported each other so well. In maths we have been practicing counting in ½ and ¼ which has been a tricky challenge that everyone has risen to. Finally, we have been able to try new art skills to create textured artwork about the seaside.

    Damson Class:
The children are really looking forward to Greek day (23rd May) and dressing up! We have finished sculpting our clay pots and the children have enjoyed painting and learning about the usefulness of these pots as a way of evaluating our learning. In maths, finding fractions of amounts has been our focus (Year 5) and adding multiple numbers in Year 4.

    Oak Class:
Miss V has been really impressed with the way in which Oak Class have tackled their SAT’s assessments this week. All children have been calm, relaxed and ready to show off what they know. Everyone is looking forward to a very different week next week with HS2 engineers joining us for a project and a team building day with All Saints ahead of our residential trip.

    Dear Parents,
I hope you had an enjoyable bank holiday weekend and made the most of the surprisingly good weather.  This week has continued to be busy with the children working hard on their learning.

I am so impressed with the maturity and resilience the children within Oak class have shown towards their preparation for their SATS that will be happening next week.  You can clearly see the dedication to their learning as they have been focused and looked carefully at how they can each reach their full potential.

This is partially due to their own resilience and attitude, but also the dedication of Miss V who encourages the children to achieve their best without putting untoward pressure on them.

This year there are no formal recorded year 2 SATS, as this requirement was removed by the government.  As a school/academy trust we will be getting the children to sit some quizzes to help support our own internal judgements of how the children are progressing.  This is very similar to our quizzes that we carry out termly and gives our teachers a clear view of how well the children are doing in their learning.

Please note there is no celebration assembly on Friday as we have the school photographer in that day.  Have a wonderful weekend when it finally comes!

    Maple Class:
We are using non-fiction books and the internet to find out all about bikes this week. This is building towards our ‘Victorian cycles’ workshop at the Transport Museum at the end of this half term! In maths, we are doubling numbers and year 1 are beginning to add 3 small numbers. In RE, we are continuing to learn about special places of worship and this week we have been learning about Mosques.

    Cedar Class:
Cedar have continued to enjoy learning all about the seaside and have been creating their own Victorian Style Posters for a railway trip to the beach. In Maths, Year 3's have been investigating measuring, while Year 2's have been looking at statistics. Our English unit on non-chronological reports is coming to an end and the class have been planning and writing their reports on a chosen sport.

    Damson Class:
This week the children have been looking at poetry understanding rhyming couplets and other structures in poetry. In addition, they have thoroughly enjoyed creating our traditional Greek pottery. They have painted them in a meandering design from the Archaic period of Greek History.

    Oak Class:
This week we have been working through past SAT papers as learning tools – to guide us through the questioning styles. Everyone is ready for next week's assessments; they are set to show off all their knowledge.
We have also selected our play for the end of year 6 school show, and we are doing well with our recorder lessons.

    Dear Parents,
It has been a lovely start of the week with the sun shining on us which was certainly better than the wet weekend!  It has been great to see all of the children outside enjoying their playtimes and having the opportunity to play outside rather than having wet play.

The children have been really motivated in their learning and I must admit I am really enjoying the dough disco in Maple class and hearing about the amazing fact file writing that has been happening in Oak class this week.  It is a real delight to see the commitment that the children demonstrate across the entire school to their learning.

It is coming up to that time of year when teachers start writing the children’s reports for the year.  It is a very special time when I get to read lovely feedback on the progress the children having been making.  We still have a few months to go, but there is already such a lot to celebrate from their learning this year.

Education is more than filling gaps, it is about ensuring the children have a journey within education and life that helps them discover, develop and flourish.   This is so important and is demonstrated by the wonderful learning opportunities that the children have each and every day.

I look forward to celebrating the children’s achievements with you all at the end of the week. Have a wonderful weekend when it finally arrives.

    Maple Class:
We have been very busy creating a brand new adventure for the ‘100 decker bus’! We have some fantastic story tellers and future authors in our class. In Science, we have been learning about the different parts of a plant and what their job is. We created some fantastic posters to show this!

    Cedar Class:
Cedar have loved continuing to learn about Bob Marley and have been practicing playing and singing ‘Three Little Birds’. Year 2’s have been practicing pulling out maths facts from word problems, while year 3’s are looking at multiplying and dividing by 10/100. Additionally, we have been reviewing our charcoal art, discussing our favourite parts and challenges we faced.

    Damson Class:
This week in Damson Class we started our music unit Mamma Mia, based on the popular songs from the band, ABBA. The children have been exploring pulse and rhythm to learn and perform these songs in small groups. In addition, we have been exploring coordinates in maths and finishing the writing of our new chapter of the Hobbit.

    Oak Class:
This week in Oak Class we have researched Ethiopia – the setting of our class text and created fact files with our findings. We have also started a new unit of work – Journalistic writing. In maths we are revising particularly focusing on word questions.
In our Coastlines topic we have been learning about the water cycle.
