Burton Green Academy Newsletter 330 8th May

Dear Parents,
I hope you had an enjoyable bank holiday weekend and made the most of the surprisingly good weather.  This week has continued to be busy with the children working hard on their learning.

I am so impressed with the maturity and resilience the children within Oak class have shown towards their preparation for their SATS that will be happening next week.  You can clearly see the dedication to their learning as they have been focused and looked carefully at how they can each reach their full potential.

This is partially due to their own resilience and attitude, but also the dedication of Miss V who encourages the children to achieve their best without putting untoward pressure on them.

This year there are no formal recorded year 2 SATS, as this requirement was removed by the government.  As a school/academy trust we will be getting the children to sit some quizzes to help support our own internal judgements of how the children are progressing.  This is very similar to our quizzes that we carry out termly and gives our teachers a clear view of how well the children are doing in their learning.

Please note there is no celebration assembly on Friday as we have the school photographer in that day.  Have a wonderful weekend when it finally comes!

Maple Class:
We are using non-fiction books and the internet to find out all about bikes this week. This is building towards our ‘Victorian cycles’ workshop at the Transport Museum at the end of this half term! In maths, we are doubling numbers and year 1 are beginning to add 3 small numbers. In RE, we are continuing to learn about special places of worship and this week we have been learning about Mosques.

Cedar Class:
Cedar have continued to enjoy learning all about the seaside and have been creating their own Victorian Style Posters for a railway trip to the beach. In Maths, Year 3's have been investigating measuring, while Year 2's have been looking at statistics. Our English unit on non-chronological reports is coming to an end and the class have been planning and writing their reports on a chosen sport.

Damson Class:
This week the children have been looking at poetry understanding rhyming couplets and other structures in poetry. In addition, they have thoroughly enjoyed creating our traditional Greek pottery. They have painted them in a meandering design from the Archaic period of Greek History.

Oak Class:
This week we have been working through past SAT papers as learning tools – to guide us through the questioning styles. Everyone is ready for next week's assessments; they are set to show off all their knowledge.
We have also selected our play for the end of year 6 school show, and we are doing well with our recorder lessons.
