Burton Green Academy Newsletter 4th November 2020

It has been lovely welcoming everybody back after half term and seeing their enthusiasm as they once more embrace the learning opportunities.

As you will be aware the new national lockdown is looming and I am sure you will be aware of the impact on the country this will have.

With this in mind I would like to remind you about ensuring social distancing when collecting and dropping children off and also ensuring when collecting you leave the site as soon as you have your children.

I am becoming increasingly aware of cases coming nearer to us and am hoping to keep all of the bubbles open for as long as possible.  I would therefore ask that you consider the guidance sent from Warwickshire public health very carefully, which asks that should your child be unwell (even with non-Covid symptoms) that they do not attend school.  This advice has been sent as Warwickshire has found a high number of cases within children, where they did not exhibit the traditional symptoms.

As we move forward we are intending for this term to be as normal as we can make it and are already planning our ‘Christmas Performance’ that can be filmed in bubbles and sent out at the end of term, Christmas lunch in class bubbles and Christmas parties.

Many thanks for your ongoing support.

Maple Class:
This week we are reading ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and will be retelling the story using expression. We will also be creating our own versions too! We are learning about our feelings during our ‘Protective Behaviours’ week and are thinking about where we feel safe. We are also thinking about who we can talk to if we are ever feeling worried, scared or angry.

Cedar Class:
This week the children have really enjoyed starting to learn about The Great Fire of London, alongside our protective behaviours teaching in PSHE.

Damson Class:
This week in Damson class we have been investigating cave art in preparation for our next Art and DT project.  Also, we have been looking at the language of explanation texts and we have enjoyed beginning our new class text.

Oak Class:
We have completed a baseline assessment for SAT’s Miss V was very impressed with the way the whole class tackled the tasks. We have also selected our Xmas play which will be filmed this year. All classes will be involved and filmed within their class bubbles. Year 6 have been selecting parts and are looking forward to performing.

This week we have revisited work regarding protective behaviours - recognising how our early warning signs can be useful to help us stay safe.
