My Happy Mind

Aim
The aim of implementing the My Happy Mind programme at Burton Green is to foster a positive, resilient, and mentally healthy environment for all students. By integrating this programme into our weekly routine, we strive to equip children with essential tools to manage their emotions, build self-confidence, and enhance their overall well-being. We are committed to nurturing a growth mindset and encouraging a supportive community where students feel empowered to navigate challenges with optimism and emotional resilience. Through My Happy Mind, we aim to create a foundation for lifelong mental health, enabling our students to thrive both academically and personally.
Vocabulary
The My Happy Mind programme introduces key vocabulary to help children understand how their brains work and how emotions are processed. One important concept is Team HAP, which refers to three key areas of the brain that play a crucial role in emotional regulation and decision-making:
- Hippocampus: This part of the brain helps us store memories and navigate our experiences. It’s important for learning and connecting past experiences with current situations.
- Amygdala: Known as the brain’s "emotional centre," the amygdala is responsible for processing emotions like fear, anger, and happiness. It helps us respond to emotional stimuli.
- Pre-Frontal Cortex: This area of the brain helps with decision-making, impulse control, and thinking about consequences. It’s key to regulating emotions and making thoughtful choices.
By understanding how these parts of the brain work together as Team HAP, children can learn to manage their emotions and respond to situations in a calm and balanced way.
