Burton Green Academy Newsletter 9th October 2019

Another busy week with many highlights. I spent a lovely time showing our school off on a tour this week. At our Stone Laying Assembly in the Peace Garden, we welcomed all of the new children into our school family. This is always a very special moment for all of us and the children’s evaluations show this.   As the children laid their stones you could see the importance not only in their faces, but their proud buddies who joined them on their journey to place their stone.

This weekend is once again our Green Leek 10k and it looks like it is going to be bigger than ever.  All the Green Leek team have gone that extra mile this year to make our ‘Green Leek’ as ‘Green’ as we can make it.  A special thank you to the team who work tirelessly to make this event a success.  We hope you will join us on Sunday for the race where we’re hopeful it won’t be as wet as last year!

Class Highlights of the Week:
Maple Class:
This week we are going to be thinking about Harvest festival and why it is celebrated. We are also looking forward to our first Wellie Wednesday – we will be exploring our outdoor area and will be thinking of how we can take care of the wildlife over the autumn and winter months.
Cedar Class:
This week we have been learning about simple sliding and lever mechanisms, the children have really enjoyed applying these mechanisms based on a castle that they have designed.
Damson Class:
We have been learning about the art of William Morris and the arts and craft movement in preparation for designing our own prints.  Also, in literacy we have been writing our own 'Just So' stories in the style of Rudyard Kipling.
Oak Class:
This week we have been writing persuasively pulling together the main learning point from the last few weeks including using rhetorical questions, exclamations, conditional sentences, nouns, adjectives, commas, dashes and brackets. We have helped our buddies in the laying of stones assembly which we all enjoyed. We also had a trip to Coventry Transport Museum and Herbert Art Gallery to learn about the Coventry Blitz. A week full of very different experiences and a lot of learning.
