Burton Green Academy Newsletter 8th June 2022

Dear Parents,
It has been such a busy week back after half term.

Monday started with us waving Oak class, Miss V and Mrs T off on their exciting journey to the Isle of Wight.  The children had such huge smiles, that were only matched by the size of their bags!  Updates so far have indicated lots of fun adventures and some sun!

Back in school the children have settled back into the routines with lots of exciting learning.

Maple class were keen to get back to their learning and I know that the current reception children will be keen to show our ‘new’ reception children the toys and games that we play in school when they start visiting next week.

Our year 1 children will be completing their phonics assessment at the end of this week.

I was greeted with some lovely emails on our return regarding the fantastic mosaic that was designed by the children of the school and also the fabulous French Horn playing by Anna in Damson class.

Well done Anna some amazing playing and a very professional performance.  I have been told how this made the event very regal and made everybody feel very special :)

I look forward to celebrating with you all on Friday, when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

Maple Class:
This week we are really enjoying our new story: Oi Frog! We have explored the rhyming words in the story and have thought of our own characters that we could add in too! In maths, we have been learning to order numbers all the way to 100 and have been practising our counting in 10s and 1s.

Cedar Class:
This week Cedar have been reading the lighthouse keeper’s lunch and undertaking some more seaside activities. We have also started researching Arcimboldo an Italian artist who paints using fruit. This is very interesting and related to our D&T teaching this term using food.

Damson Class
In Damson Class this week we have been making Grecian Pots with air dry clay and later, we will be decorating them with our own designs. We are also enjoying writing short stories that centre around finding a portal into another world too. Maths work is all about using ladder method to multiply numbers, expanded and contracted methods.

Oak Class:
Our news this week is that Oak class are enjoying a fantastic time away at Kingswood, trying lots of new activities and making lots of amazing memories.
