Burton Green Academy Newsletter 27th April 2022

Dear Parents,
Welcome back after what I hope has been an enjoyable Easter break for all. It was so lovely to see some ‘sun’ and it has really set the scene for our summer term!

On another lovely note I have seen a few excited faces this week as the children starting school in September have now received their special letters. We look forward to welcoming them into school for induction visits later in the term.

I’m sure that you don’t need reminding that we are quickly approaching end of Key Stage Assessment in both Year 2 and Year 6. Teacher Assessments take place throughout May for Year 2 and it is important that the children are in school every day to enable us to group them most appropriately. Year 6 SATS week begins 9th May.

On the 12th May we look forward to welcoming Mrs B back from her maternity leave as she joins us to teach Damson each Thursday and Friday.  Mrs O will continue teaching Monday-Wednesday, so this will give great continuity and the experience from two excellent teachers.

I hope you all enjoy the forthcoming bank holiday weekend and I look forward to celebrating with you on Friday when we ‘Reach for the Stars’.

Maple Class:
Maple Class have really enjoyed sharing their exciting Easter holiday news! We have started our new topic – On the Move. This is all about transport and we have really enjoyed our new story – The Naughty Bus. We have been using adjectives to describe his adventure and are even making up our own stories about where he goes next. In maths we have been learning to find 1 more, 1 less, 10 more and 10 less from a given number.

Cedar Class:
This week we have welcomed the children back and got straight down to business in maths learning how to find fractions of amounts as well as adding and subtracting fractions in year 3. Our new topic is ‘The Seaside’. We have enjoyed using our atlas to name and locate the seas and oceans surrounding the UK and looking excitedly forward to what we have planned for this topic.

Damson Class
Damson Class begin this term with a new topic on Ancient Greece. Many of the children are really enthusiastic and we look forward to utilising their existing knowledge, particularly on Greek Myths. In Literacy, we are writing persuasively and in Maths we are looking at fractions and decimals.

Oak Class:
In Oak Class this week we have been revising maths key areas in preparation for our SAT’s tests in two weeks' time. Everyone is working very hard to clarify their knowledge. In literacy we have been analysing features of balanced arguments and revising cohesive vocabulary. We are learning how beaches are formed in our topic – Coastlines.
