Burton Green Academy Newsletter 20th November 2019

Another busy week started with a visit by reception class to All Saints’ Church in Leek Wootton.  It was so lovely to hear about everything they had learnt (and the fun they had) and to hear about the new friends they had made from All Saints’ Academy.  It is so special to hear about the friendships being made across the federation at the start of the children’s schooling.

We were also treated to a health and safety presentation from Cala homes this week.  It was a good opportunity for the children to learn about the different jobs that take place when building homes and also the difference ways you can keep yourself safe.

Last week I was very proud on Friday with the choir who made a visit to the Radioplus radio station in Coventry.  Not only was their singing amazing their behaviour was outstanding and a real credit to themselves.  The carols and interviews are set to be played over the Christmas period.  We’ll make sure we keep you up to date with these dates so you can listen at home.

On the festive topic there are some signup sheets on my office door where the children can sign up for their Christmas stalls!

Class Highlights of the Week:
Maple Class:

This week we are exploring non-fiction books all about Space and are finding out lots of interesting facts. We are learning to subtract in maths and are practising counting backwards.
Cedar Class:
This week the children have been learning about money and applying this skill in problems. We are focusing on adverbs in year 3 this week and learning the rules for these spellings whilst year 2s have been continuing to learn the /l/ sound as il and al. Lastly, we have enjoyed using the computers to practice our typing and other word processing skills.
Damson Class:
This week we have begun a new literacy topic focusing on biographies and in particular biographies about Roald Dahl.  Also, in maths we have been converting measures (grams and kilograms), measuring angles and identifying angle types.
Oak Class:
A busy week calculating area and perimeter of shapes and analysing instruction texts. The highlight was making wartime recipes; vegetable soup and rock cakes, both of which were enjoyed by everyone.
