Burton Green Academy Newsletter 1st December 2021

Dear Parents,
This week rehearsals have been continuing for both our production and carol concert.  It is so special to see the children rehearsing and embracing the opportunity to sing our traditional carols and the more modern songs that go with our production.

The advent calendar is up in the hall and I had the pleasure of seeing the children’s faces as we revealed picture 1 this morning and the children received their gold coins!

Within our assemblies this week we were thinking about trust and how important it is to be trusted and trust others.  We thought about some of the qualities that we look for when finding people to trust and how we can demonstrate these qualities to others.

Behind the scenes we are very grateful for the support of the PTFA as we order new books to enhance our reading selection and new computer equipment to support our move to a new computing curriculum from January.  Exciting times ahead and extra resources that wouldn’t have been possible without their support.

As you will know we have had an increase in Covid cases within school. Please keep testing regularly using lateral flow tests and book PCR tests when requested.

I look forward to once again reaching for the stars on Friday.

Maple Class:
This week in Maple we have been creating some fantastic non-fiction pages about some of the planets in our Solar System! We have been learning about the season of Winter and are busy creating a lovely seasonal display. We are also enjoying practising our song for the Christmas show!

Cedar Class:
This week we have been busy designing our calendars and getting into the Christmas spirit. In addition, practice for our production is going swimmingly and the children are learning the songs by heart. We look forward to recording and showcasing what we have spent so long practicing for you.

Damson Class:
This week we have been learning about hyphens and are using them in our writing to create limericks with very funny results.
In Maths we are using our understanding of place value to add and subtract larger numbers.
In addition to this we are busy designing calendars, making advent pictures and rehearsing for the Christmas Show.

Oak Class:
This week we have started to rehearse for the Christmas Production. In numeracy we have been calculating percentages and dividing and multiplying fractions. In our topic and literacy work we have been learning about air raid shelters and writing instructions connected to our design technology project (designing and creating a miniature garden).
