Burton Green Academy Newsletter 17th November 2021

Dear Parents,
This week the children have been learning about anti-bullying week and have all come into school today wearing odd socks!

This helps the children recognise that it is ok to be an individual and ‘unique and special’ (as we say in our assemblies each day).  We are a caring and inclusive school, but it is always important to remind the children what it is like to ‘be different’ and to be aware of how we treat each other.

As I have been going around the school it is wonderful to see how the children are developing their love of English and how their writing is developing.  I have seen some lovely examples of the children analysing texts and using these ideas to support and develop their own writing.  I’m sure we have some budding writers in our midst!

Tomorrow the children are going to be coming into school in their PJs to support Pudsey Bear (a day early) as we have photographs booked for Friday.  What an exciting week!

I look forward to celebrating with you all on Friday, when we will once again be ‘Reaching for the Stars’.  Have a great weekend, when it finally arrives.

Maple Class:
This week in Maple Class we are becoming story tellers! We have planned our own class story about the next adventure Baby Bear will go on after his trip to the moon in Whatever Next. In maths we are exploring number bonds and how many different ways we can make a number.

Cedar Class:
This week in Cedar class we have started our protective behaviours unit in PSHE. This unit is based around how to be a good friend as well as how we can look after those we care about or are our friends. Equally, this unit will aim to equip children with skills to spot their early warning signs

Damson Class:
This week in Damson class we have been looking at the artist William Morris in our topic work. We have been learning all about his many talents and trying to create repeating pattern designs in his style.
In Maths we are looking at decimal numbers and place value. Whilst in Literacy we are learning about explanation texts.

Oak Class:
This week we the class retold the story ‘War Game’ by Michael Foreman in the form of a comic strip. We have been working to produce non-chronological reports in literacy and calculating fractions in numeracy. We have also started reciting our playscript for the Christmas show.
