Burton Green Academy Newsletter 11th September 2019

It was so lovely to see so many parents at our ‘welcome to’ meetings last night.  It was a great opportunity for you to meet the teachers and learn about how the school operates and a great chance for the teachers to meet you all at the start of the year.

The school continues to be a hive of activity with the children enjoying their learning and really getting ‘stuck in’ to their topics.  Within Maple class it is lovely seeing the new children settle in and learning all of the rules and how to access all of the exciting learning within the room.  A big well done goes to all of our ‘big year 1’ children who are doing so well at helping the reception children settle in.

I look forward to seeing you all this week when we find out how our ‘Rock Stars’ are getting on and how many points our Mathletics stars have scored!

Class Highlights of the Week:
Maple Class:
We are all busy getting to know each other this week! We have been continuing to explore the story of Elmer the Elephant and are thinking about how we are all unique and special. We are also learning about Autumn time and are looking for signs of autumn outside.

Cedar Class:
We have enjoyed our castle topic and have continued with our Castle topic by looking at abstract art. We have been studying Paul Klee and his painting castle in the sun. The children really enjoyed creating their own abstract art!

Damson Class:
This week we have been learning about Queen Victoria's coronation and writing diary recounts of the day.  In maths we have been securing our place value knowledge and revising our times table knowledge.

Oak Class:
Everyone has been settling into the new classroom routines. We elected school and glow councillors this week as well as deciding on lunchtime club responsibilities. Looking after buddies in reception and helping them with lunchtime has been fun. In literacy we have been analysing war time adverts which has helped us in our topic work creating propaganda posters.
