Burton Green Academy Newsletter 11th October 2023

Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week where everybody has continued to work extremely hard. I have seen the children across the school, working hard to prepare for our Harvest festival which will be on Friday (27th October) at 9:05am.

Next week we have our peace garden assembly planned, where the children lay their stones.   It is always such a special occasion where we welcome the new members to our community.  This year the assembly will be based in the hall, as the groundworks have not been fully completed.

I am looking forward to our year 6 buddies presenting their ‘little buddy’ to the rest of the school community.

Parents evening is in the week beginning 23rd October.   If you haven’t returned your slip yet, please return as soon as possible as it is always special getting the opportunity to share your child’s achievements since the start of the term.

I look forward to seeing some of you on Friday morning when we once again celebrate the children’s achievements when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

Maple Class:
This week we have started to celebrate Black History Month and we will be learning all about Mary Seacole and all of her amazing achievements! We have also enjoyed continuing to explore our senses in science and have focussed on taste. The children were very excited to try the different foods and we started to classify them into sweet, salty, sour and bitter.

Cedar Class:
This week we have spent our PSHE time focussing on inspirational Black People and learning about Black History Month and it’s importance. Yr 3’s have been building on their knowledge of doubling and halving while year 2’s have been learning about ordinal numbers. In English we have been continuing our Poetry unit, reviewing and starting to think about atmosphere in poetry.

Damson Class:
This week we have been doing some extremely purposeful learning centred around Black History Month. The children have been extremely mature in discussing this as well as understanding. In addition, we have been building on our knowledge of the industrial revolution in Topic work as well as our formal column methods in Maths.

Oak Class:
This week we have been developing our understanding around Black History Month, considering Black Women who are influential to us in society. We have been using subtraction strategies in maths and calculating time intervals. In English we have be identifying persuasive language used in advertising.
