Burton Green Academy Newsletter 332 22nd May
Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week as the children have been enjoying some very practical learning.
I have heard (and seen) the children in our older classes busily creating carriages for their DT project and I have seen the excitement as both Cedar and Maple prepare to do the same today! A fantastic project and a real treat to have 2 engineers joining us to complete this work.
In addition to this, Oak class have been preparing for their residential trip to Kingswood. I know they will enjoy this and will create lifelong memories. This preparation will continue tomorrow when All Saints’ will be joining us to complete their team building work.
I cannot write this email without mentioning the amazing poetry from Cedar class. I was presented with a fantastic book this morning demonstrating some amazing writing on ‘All the Wild Wonders’. The writing is amazing and shows not only great care and attention, but such thoughtful ideas and vocabulary.
It is hard to believe that we only have half a term left until the end of the academic year. There are lots of things planned as we look forward to our summer fayre, Year 6 production, leavers services/assemblies and activities, sports days etc. so we certainly won’t be winding down, but more like building to a big finale!
I hope you all have an enjoyable half term and manage to spend some quality time with your family.
Maple Class:
We are very excited for our trip to the Transport Museum on Thursday and will be taking part in a Victorian Cycles workshop! In class, we have been learning about halves and quarters in maths and have been making information leaflets in English. We are also creating some fantastic carriages in D&T and will be exploring joining techniques. We hope you all have a lovely half term!
Cedar Class:
This week Cedar have enjoyed learning about the 5 oceans of the world, practicing a catchy song to help them remember. In literacy we have loved further exploring poetry and especially enjoyed performing for our peers. Year 3’s gathered data from their growing experiment and year 2’s worked so hard when practicing and applying their spelling knowledge. Well done, Cedar, a super end to the term!
Damson Class:
The children are excited and keen for our Greek Day this week! We have been learning about the differences between Athens and Sparta and what evidence in history we have to support this. In addition, we have had engineers into school teaching us how to build a buddy and carriages which has been brilliant and allowed children to practice skills like sawing, joining and measuring. Maths we have been revising key topics needed for after half term.
Oak Class:
In Oak Class this week we have had 2 HS2 engineer visits – we have made engines and added electronics to them to make them movable machines. We have also finished our class text – The Fastest Boy in the World – which we all enjoyed. We are also having a team building day with All Saints Year 6 on Thursday ahead of our residential trip after half term. A fun filled week has been had by all!
