Burton Green Academy Newsletter 7th February 2024

Dear Parents,
It has been a very busy half term with lots going on and a real buzz of excitement within school. It was lovely to have so many of you coming to our parent consultations last night to find out about the great progress your children have made over this term.   I look forward to seeing more of you this evening when you will get to share that same joy.

It is a real team effort and I know the staff really appreciate the time to share your child’s achievements. As we finish the first half of the year, I would once again like to thank all of you for your tremendous support through this year.

Working together allows us to offer the very best education for all the children within the school. We have a staff training day across the Trust on the 19th February so the children will be welcomed back on the 20th February.

Some of our children in year 5 and 6 will once again be embarking on cross country this weekend.  We wish them every success and hope that the weather is kind to us all!

I would like to wish you all a restful and enjoyable half term (when it comes) where I hope you will enjoy quality time together as families.

Maple Class:
We are enjoying learning all about Lunar New Year in Maple Class this week and have been busy making dragons as it is the Year of the Dragon. We are also learning all about how to keep safe on the internet and have discussed who we can go to if anything makes us feel worried. To top off our busy week, we have had a D&T project to make our own dinosaur moving pictures!

Cedar Class:
This week Cedar have been working really hard on their times tables. In literacy we have been looking at Chinese New Year, learning about traditions that take place this time of year and working on our descriptive vocabulary. We have also been learning about Internet Safety, and reminding ourselves how to stay safe online. We also have enjoyed a session watching our Volcano videos from last week!

Damson Class:
This week the children have made their rainforest Dioramas. Thank you for your support in donating shoeboxes and other resources. They had designed and made them to exemplify the different layers of the rainforest.

Oak Class:
In Oak Class this week in English we have been writing our own detective style stories – we are creating a class compilation book of these. In maths we have used protractors and rulers to draw shapes to scale with given angles. We have also revised addition and subtraction skills focussing on accuracy. On Tuesday we watched a live ‘Internet Safety Lesson’ - online and we completed activities connected to this to help us to stay safe online now and in the future.
