Burton Green Academy Newsletter 6th September 2023

Dear Parents/Carers
It has been so lovely to welcome all of the children back this week.  It is a real privilege to see them embark on the next step of their learning journey.

It was so nice to finish last year with our leavers celebrations which involved parents, our summer BBQ and our fantastic year 6 tea party.

From next week we will be once again enjoying our celebration assemblies each Friday morning and would love to see as many of you as possible celebrating the children’s achievements.

Next week are our meet the teacher sessions which will allow you to hear about your child’s new class and ask questions about anything you want to know (sessions will be held on Monday at 4:30pm or 5:00pm to allow parents with more than once child to attend multiple sessions).  This will be a great opportunity to hear about the routines and topics and also to meet your child’s new teacher in your child’s classroom.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend and I look forward to catching up with you all next week.

Many thanks for your continued support

Andrew Morris
Head Teacher

Maple Class:
Year 1 have settled back into school so well and are ready to welcome in Reception on Thursday and Friday. We know they will be super role models and will enjoy helping our new children to settle into Maple Class. Year 1 have been busy in maths practising counting out accurately and revising number bonds to 5. They have also written some great descriptions of Elmer the Elephant in literacy!

Cedar Class:
The children have really settled in well to Cedar Class, Year 3’s are being great role models and being so helpful with the Year 2’s as they find their feet in a new classroom. Everyone did really well when recapping Maths from last year and learning some new skills. Also, there has been some super teamwork going on, particularly when researching our new Topic ‘Castles’. We are all very excited for more learning this term.

Damson Class:
The children in Damson class have settled in well to their new classroom and new classroom routines. We have enjoyed getting to know new pupils who have started as well as welcoming back old friends. We have begun, in maths, by looking at place value and the value of each digit in the number up to 5 digits.

Rudyard Kipling is our focus in English. We are looking at classic stories including The Jungle Book.

Oak Class:
All the children have come back to school with a positive attitude, they are ready to work hard and have demonstrated this already. We have been revising place value in Maths; in English we have begun with a topic (Outsiders) covering the subject of empathy and feeling different. The class will be electing school and eco council members as well as GLOW representatives on Thursday. A very positive start to the new school year overall.
