Burton Green Academy Newsletter 28th February 2024

Dear Parents,
It has been another busy week in school with lots of preparation for Mother's Day Assembly next week!

Next week we are also looking forward to our World Book Day and another fantastic opportunity to celebrate this with ‘Dance Days’.  I can’t wait to see what characters we have coming into school next week!

It was so good to have an update on the residential that Year 5 enjoyed last week.  It certainly seems like they had a lot of fun, overcame their fears and really developed as a group.

I am genuinely so grateful to the staff (Mr Nailor and Mrs T) who volunteer to go on these residentials and give up yet more of their precious time.  It is a huge commitment, but this does allow the children to have added experiences.

I look forward to seeing some of you on Friday when we once again ‘Reach for the Stars’.

Have a lovely weekend when it finally arrives!

Maple Class:
We are super story tellers this week and have been retelling Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have also started to read some other traditional tales too and have been comparing different versions. In maths, we are continuing to explore odd and even numbers and will be finding half of amounts and shapes at the end of the week.

Cedar Class:
Year 2’s have continued to progress in Maths, looking at numbers being smaller and larger than each other, while Year 3’s have been working hard on tricky subtractions. Cedar have also continued to really enjoy their swimming lessons, growing in confidence and being great representatives for the school. Finally, we have continued to enjoy learning about the Romans this week in both Topic and Guided Reading sessions.

Damson Class:
Year 5 children have done an amazing job at the Pioneer Centre and were extremely well behaved, I couldn’t be more proud of their achievements. Fears were faced, and ziplines were conquered. This week we have begun to look at tribal artwork as well as the work of Georgia O’Keefe, an American artist that links to the rainforest.

Oak Class:
In Oak Class in maths we have been revisiting our knowledge about the properties of shapes, calculating change and calculating with decimal numbers. In English we have started our Graffiti unit of work – appraising graffiti and giving our opinions of it. We have also been creating some graffiti art as well as researching graffiti artists.
